Ive got a water softener, and a big tank with salt in it that the water runs through. Any help would be greatly appreciated:blsmoke:

Depends on how much TDS it has, what level of salinity. You could go the safe route and use Reverse Osmosis on the softened water, then it will be pure.

Good advice +rep. Is the tank with salt part of the softener system? The water has a high ph level, somewhere over 8. Im mostly concerned about salt build up as a result of the salt in the filter. Would a RO system give me perfect water? If so, it might be a wise investment.:blsmoke:

The salt strips out the minerals in the water by displacing them with salt. Your softened water is probably too saline to support plant cells, the salt will kill the plants. Reverse Osmosis is a method where only a water molecule can fit through a membrane, the salt will be left behind. RO water is 99.99999% pure water, hardly anything but water can get through the RO membrane. Whirlpool sells a RO kit that is fairly inexpensive and will give you enough pure water to grow with for a year or more before you need to change the Membrane. http://www.ecodynewatertreatment.com/rof/Index.asp

Again, good advice! I'm about 3 weeks from completing my first grow, and the most important thing I've learned is how vital good water is. Currently I use a 5 gallon jug, and fill it up at my local grocery store for $1.29. Its filtered like 7 times including through a reverse osmosis system. I flushed all my plants with well water about a week before flower, and it really fucked em up. After some TLC they seem to be doing alright. Bagseed, 400w hps, 1/2 gallon pots:bigjoint:.
