Is there someone to talk to about dispenseries on here?

I have some questions about dispenseries and how they work. Mostly on how their monitary system works with non profit and what not, I have quiet a few questions. I live in a non medical state right now, but we are pushing to have legal medical Marijuana within the next year. I know how to grow, and I know its a lot more than that. I have money to buy buildings, supplies, and to hire workers. Im looking to make enough to get by and donate the rest to people who need help elsewhere. I'm just unsure how it all works. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals

go to the colorado website for medicl marijuana, they have just started using dispensarys and are going thru growing pains which is typical. But they will have a lot of answers.

Thanks guys, I just want to make sure I go about everything the right way, even though my states not legal yet, and they teach some of their courses based on cali and colorado laws, it will still be very helpful to go to the classes because i'm sure my state will make its laws based on the states that are legal already. So i'll remember that they will be rough guidelines, and not %100 correct.

ok well, where do you want me to begin? How much do states charge for a liscense( I know they all vary, but roughly), do you need a health card? If my state becomes legal and decides for non-profit only, how do I pay myself? I was also thinking that I wouldn't be able to supply the dispensery by myself, so can I buy from the growers I know and give them a check with a 1099 at the end of the year? or is it don't ask don't tell kind of thing with the state?(that confuses me a lot) I enrolled in greenway U today so i will find answers eventually but i'd still like to know some stuff now. I have more questions also if you don't mind, but i'll start with these

The 1099 thing is important. DADT with the state is a slippery slope, because at some point, they will ask.

As far as paying yourself for running a NPO, I don't know how that works, but you can easily google it. Make sure to google it not just for the federal regulations, but also those for your state. You will most likely be filling quartely, and you want to have your shit tight and bulletproof.

Thanks I really appreciate any help right now, and yes thats why i'm asking questions a year ahead of time. So I know most of my shit right off the get go. Bulletproof is good

I may be able to answer your questions about running a non-profit. I opened a small family foundation a few years ago.

Non profits are in many respects just like any other business. The main difference is that any profits need to be put back into the organization instead of to stockholders. For example, a dispensary could use any profit to host classes for patients, to expand their grow operation, or to provide medication for low income patients.

The staffers and officers of the non-profit are allowed to be paid a fair wage for their work. There have been dispensary owners that paid themselves well above a market wage, and they ended up in trouble with the Feds. I don't know what you'd consider a fair wage for a bud tender, though.

The sticky issue for me is the 'donations'. Instead of charging for medicine, dispensaries call it a donation. However, you get what you pay for with this 'donation'. An 1/8th of quality medicine costs around $50-$65 in our area. At that price, most dispensaries could turn a hefty profit. For patients unable to 'donate', I have seen a few programs and local dispensaries. The majority of patients that are the 'walking wounded' would not qualify for any discounts.

Alright, now i'm getting somewhere. How about all the initial investments made such as buildings, equipment, ect, they are paid back in full with no profit, correct? I like the low income idea, It really makes me feel good to help people who deserve it, I also was thinking of free medicine for those who meet a certain illness criteria, but I don't know if that would be legal. Also when it comes to medicine besides the bud itself, such as snacks, how do they charge for that? since on top of the costs of growing I then would have to pay someone to cook, are they too run on the donation scale? Again you guys are great for helping! Thanks friends
