Is my light too far?

Whats going on. Just double checking on my light distance. Now I know all the rule of thumbs with the light not burning and all. Im in a kinda sticky situation though.

My light is about 3ft. or so from the tops. My Stativa stretched about 5 inch in a week and im running out of grow room. My estimate is that the plant will reach 4 inch before the light which is dueable but there will be no room for my oculatting fan or co2 gen. should I let them stretch until they get to where they are comfortable?

give the tops a bend..they will grow out instead of up..

What size light?

3 feet seems like a lot for any light. If your using HID then you're going to need ventilation to beat the heat. I learned this the hard way

I've got it cold enough to get your hand 6 inch from the light and not feel hot.
So getting them close is not a problem but last time I feel like i had them too close its a Hortilux blub 1000w in a 4x4 room

I feel for your problem, but with any sativa they are general very heat sensitive and do shoot like a fucker under to much heat. But since your plant(s) are under a 1000hort at three feet, that not heat, unless the room gets to warm. When in flower and increasing transpiration on the plants system I could see a un-useful stretch. I would try and knock back all heat if possible, sounds like u might have some since your in a 4x4 tent with a 1000 (HPS) for 12 hours. And remember sativas continue to grow for weeeks during flower, rather than the typical 2-3 for indicas.
