Is it safe to bring an unused bong on an airplane?

I bought a brand new miniature (no bigger than 11 inches) bong (tobacco water pipe if anyone official asks), and I am flying home tomorrow. It is still brand new, unused, still in the bubble wrap. I was going to pad it out a bit more with some wrap and put it in my checked baggage. Will I be ok, or should I look into shipping it?

Again, it is BRAND NEW, nothing has ever been smoked out of it. Therefore, it is technically not drug paraphernalia. I was thinking of packing a small thing of flavored tobacco with it, just to get my point across.

This is all done in the States, btw.

UPDATE: Everything went smoothly. It made it one piece, they didn't even open my bag. My roommate was stoked. He sat there for a good 5 minutes just examining it, rolling it over and what not. It hits like a bastard, and it conserves everything, so I am happy. I am never going back to pipes.

heck i wouldn't worry about it.

considering i got stopped for a jar of mouthwash, you might want to be careful about the bong. Used or not they are going to hastle you about it. Probably make you wait for hours while they test it. And nobody is going to feel sorry for wasting your time if its legit, cause man, you tried to bring a bong on a plane, in 2008, when you cant bring mouthwash. Just think about it.

my bad, didnt realize you said checked baggage. Yeah, you'll be fine. Worst case scenario it will break or someone will steal it.

I just want it to make it in one piece, as there is some sentimental value to this bong. My roommate had a mini bong for 6 years (which is about a million years in bong years), and it ultimately broke when we moved to our new apartment. So while I was on vacation, I stopped in one of the local head shops, and I'll be damned if I see a mini bong that is his old one's twin (might be a slightly different color). I buy it on the spot, and I am hoping to surprise him when I get back tomorrow.

Dude its totally cool, i took mine (used W/ traces of resin) on the carry on, they will check it as they did mine and they will also swab it with a q-tip so just be sure you done use it and your totally fine. I was paranoid but he didnt do anything, i saw a chunk of resin in my slide as he was swabbing it too, but the Q-tip couldnt reach it! HA! Oh that was a close one. Yup your good, its your "tobaco" pipe remember.

Sweet, but I don't want to push my luck too far. I will just add some more bubble wrap to it and throw it with my socks in my checked bag.

6 years with a bong....I can't believe that...it had a name right?.I always find the bongs I own last the longest when they are named,dunno why...
