Is it ok to remove leaves?

A few of my ladies are very thick with growth (pics) and I was wondering if it is ok to start removing some leaves so the bud can receive light lower down the plant? They are almost in week 5 out of 9 in flowering..

Opinions vary on this one, personally I do not prune any healthy leaves off of my plants.Later on in flower I give the yellow and dying leaves a light tug and if they come off I throw them away. You can tuck some of the big fan leaves out of the way of some of the side kolas.

You should not remove fan leaves they are the engine that makes the buds grow

Great looking plant by the way! Good job

I have a post in my calling all noob growers thread explaining the truth about shade leaves, if your interested (page 4 or 5 I think)

im with riddle me on this one.. i have a herijuana plant in flowering and i had a few leaves blocking some bud sites, so i just carefully bent the leaves out of the way of the budsites and kinda tucked it behind another branch.. it was kinda funny as last night when i turned my plant some, the leaf became untucked from where i had put it about two or three weeks ago, and yet it didn't just bounce back to where it was but rather just kinda was trained in the position that i wanted it in.. pretty cool stuff in my book..
gl with the grow, looks great.. good work..

I agree I wouldn't cut anything healthy. From experience i learned it slowed my plant down big time. Although its my first grow. I cut a bunch and its taking a while to bounce back but it its starting to look great to me.

That is what I have done so far, moving leaves behind other and using the fan leaves to push the stems outwards towards the light. I have been removing the yellow weak leaves but a few large fan leaves low down had gone yellow and dried up so I hope this is ok?

A friend told me that the bud development on the stems needed light and to remove any leaves getting in the way hence why I raised the question, but leaving them on even if they are blocking the bud is better as the light received in those leaves will go into the bud production anyway?

I have included a pic of my Alaskan Ice - she is huge in height compared to my other ladies and has that beautiful Haze smell! She is standing next to a large desk chair and is around 5ft 5"! :D

There are also some pics of the colas up close - AI = Alaskan Ice, CH = Chrystal, KK = King's Kush - check my grow journal too :bigjoint:

that is correct.

Looking really nice! I also agree with riddleme, if the plant didn't need those leaves, it would get rid of them itself. Adversely, removing a very small amount is ok... some people do like to smoke on a bit of leaf during growing, or will take a bit as a cutting. I wouldn't do either of those at this point anyway, I say leave it alone!
