Is cali's job market really all that bad?

I'm trying to love there for school at this point. The fact that weed is semi legal is a nice little bonus but the state I am in (Illinois) is doing terrible. It is actually doing worse than California. It is ridiculous that the business I interests are more protected then the workers. Walmart firing long time employees and hiring 2 part timers is an example of the types of abuse that they can get away with. It happens all over and it should be punishable somehow.
Walmart is fucking evil. I hate shopping there. I hate myself for shopping there.

this is kind of specific, not sure if anyone can answer, but i was wondering about the creative/art/design job market over there in cali?

im about 2 years away from my BFA in graphic design at a very well respected school, trying to move out to cali once i graduate, mostly to keep growing without as much risk (live on east coast) i plan on saving about 20k before I move out there, to be able to set up lights and nice grow without worrying about how to pay for it, would love to make a living off growing but im paying close to 120 grand for this damn degree so I wouldnt mind putting it to use haha

anybody out there working as a designer or art director in cali who knows something about the likelyhood of landing a decent job? id imagine i have better luck in the south opposed to up north, most alumi from my school dont have much trouble finding starting salaries around 40-50k but most go up to NYC, chicago or the like.

I know California's debt is probably the worst in the nation now. Facing bankruptcy totally.. It's not any better where I live though, either...as opposed to Western Washington it's really hard to find jobs and I moved to Eastern/Central Washington and i've had a couple interviews today already it seems these smaller towns are better economic-wise. I moved here from Tacoma after I lost my job working as an assistant auditor for the city.
