Is cali's job market really all that bad?

I work for a large corporation (I hate it) and they have about 8 distribution centers of different types in California and I could transfer out there whenever I want because they are always hiring and a friend of mine works for another corporation (our competition) which has about 5 distribution centers in Cali; one of which is in the same town I am transferring to in yolo county and he says they are hiring all the time both here and Cali so it leaves me to wonder if things are really all that bad? I've just made mention of only two of many large businesses in Cali that are hiring new folks so what's the deal? My opinion is that alot of people that have a college degree and are jobless just have too much pride to work the type of industries that are hiring! I don't have a college degree so this kind of work suits me and pays well so what's your take on it?

Well as a professional chef with more than 5yrs exp I still cannot find a job that start for more than 9 bucks an hour or a kitchen that will hire me anyways. I find a lot of jobs i do not qualify for because I do not speak spanish here in America. I better start before I go on a huge rant about it.

i agree the job market in cali is horrible! if you can find a job many employers dont want to pay you what you are worth. some one tried to offer me $9/hr to manage a nursery, they about fell over when i told them i wanted $15/hr minimum to manage. they only to pay $8/hr for nursery workers limited to 25 hrs a week so they didnt have to pay benefits. i now run my own landscaping business, a ton more work but at least i get paid decently. i think the worst thing is you are just as likely to get passed on for a job for being OVER qualified as you are for being under qualified. its easier for my buddies 16 year old son to find work than it is for him with 2 college degrees. one is in spanish and he cant even get a job as an interpreter.

well idk where you guys live in cali but if you or someone you know needs a job than i suggest looking for a target or walmart distribution center, they both start you at over $15 an hour and thats here on the east coast so i imagine they start at a higher rate of pay in cali due to the cost of living being so much higher!
the work is pretty hard but hey it puts food on the table; which is why ive been working there so long.

Around here, walmart distribution starts at something like $11-12 an hour and treat the employees horribly from what I've heard. They actually have to hold a job fair at the local career center every month or so because so many people are always quitting or getting fired. Lately both the store and the distribution center have been systematically firing employees that have been there 5, sometimes 10 years or more and hiring 2 part time people to take their place. That way they can start them back at the base pay rate and don't need to provide benefits because they are part time.

Dank one, I know what you mean, but for the people who need work and dont know how or dont want to grow then those places could be an option to put food on the table and buy herb from growers like us! Now dank you say just grow hella meds but that only works for people who have money saved to get them through the lul season until prices come back up, unless you want to sell your hard work for $100 per zip; which is actually what I would prob do (sell at low price) because I only want to earn enough to cover my rent and the cost of each crop.

Hey sonar and dank thanks for posting. Sonar idk where your located but here in ny they start much higher than that, I was just talking to a young guy at work last night who just got hired and he's making over $17 an hour, I make a few dollars more but I've been there for over twelve years and I don't have anyone trying to fire me but I'm not throwing cases anymore either. They do demand alot though especially from new hires ever since the economy got real bad they basically want robots and they are investing alot of money into squeezing every ounce of productivity they can from the workers, including me. What are ya gonna do though, ya gotta earn money and provide for your family so you buck up and do the work because it pays good right?

I just found a low paying job doing the sort of work that I used to pay others to do for me. And I was damn lucky to find it.

I sure as hell didn't want to, but my family and I have grown sort of accustomed to living indoors and having food to eat.

And I'm no stranger to hard work, believe me.
