Is 2.5 oz. a good yield for a plant?

I'd say that's a decent yield for a 3 gallon finish for one plant. How big is your grow space? From what I've researched, on an expert grow, you should expect .75 - 1 gram per watt of light. Novice growers should expect around .25 - 1/2 gram.. you got 70 grams there on 500 watts so a little low on that end of the spectrum but there may be much more potential. Not an expert on LED's, but, are you sure you're utilizing all of your light?
 
valliant first grow and if you made it to the end without serious fuckups, great job, it will only get better. A 500w led is likely only pulling like 250 actual watts. but you may need to change it up to get better yield, scrog with longer veg time, better ventilation, better soil etc, feeding and watering when the plant needs it. watering to run off, letting it dry out. learning how close you can get your light without bleaching or heating issues.
 
2.5 is not bad for a newish grower if its total dry weight. It's also tricky to tell a plants yield potential without running it a few times or using clones.
 
It was a hair over 2.5 oz. dry. Soil was ocean forest, nutrients mostly advanced. I should have went with a 5 galllon pot, like usual! Im not a newb, but not a veteran either. My led's pulled 90 watts each, but they were each equal to a 250 watt HID. My space is 2x2.5x7'. I do let them dry for 4 days or so before rewatering with a gallon.
 
Thats not really true. It is in fact 180w. 2 hps 250s would pull way more weight. Like 8 oz easy. 16 for somebody dialed in. Dont believe the led hype. Not saying they cant grow nice bud, but always go by the watts pulled and you will be happy. Again, great job, sounds like you have some exp.
 
You never mentioned any training or anything that you did to the plant. Did you just Christmas tree it? Top it? Lst? A combination?

I have gotton away from training. I usually veg with CFL's very close for 30 days, so I end up with wider bushier plant. No lst, no topping, just let her flower naturally. Ended up with three main huge shy high colas, and ample nice side branching.

I understand HPS is way better yield wise, however I am LED all the way. The LED lights are Kessil H380. Each one is easily the equivalent to a 250 watt HID. They pull 90 watts at the wall. Thanks for the compliment I appreciate it.

That pull isn't bad at all for the wattage and 0 training ;) :blsmoke:
Depending on your space, training can work miracles. Those 3 colas could be 5 or 6 easily.
 
i know you are trying to be laced with sarcasm, but LEDs cover a wide range of effective plant yields. You can only start to tackle the issue if you use actual wattage.
600w COB led
600w HPS
600w blurple 3w led
 
Actually.....i was being serious i just invested in 3x 700w mars LED systems because 2 different grow shops advised my yields would be higher...
 
I also took into consideration the temperature issue & the electricity it would cost to regulate the heat with hid vs what id be saving with the led route.

I live in a house that has minor electrical issues, i figured HID would be a lot more hard on my electricity vs LED.......so i went LED, when i was told bigger yields it was more of a bonus really.......but if its otherwise......bummer.....i was hoping for that gram per watt..

Gram per watt is generally not achieved by most people. I've never even hit it using hid :(
 
you can hit gpw with even low end LEDs, just not with their stated wattage - use their actual wattage.
