Iolite Potable Vape

After using only the Iolite for the last 2 weeks, I decided to hit the glass pipe tonight. Fuck....I'm ripped...I'm about 1/3 of this with the Iolite.

The Iolite has it's place and so does the pipe.

If I was to compare the high from the Iolite vs the pipe:

If the pipe high is a 10, the Iolite would be a 4. IMO

Sure you using it right? My iolite has ALWAYS gotten me 3-4x higher than smoking the same amount. I grind up the weed and fill it fill to the cap (put the mouth piece in your mouth and suck bud into that chamber), then push it into the unit as its upside down so you don't spill (should hold .1-.2 gs). Let it heat up a few times before you start hitting it (most people say to give it 5 minutes but I don't think it needs that long myself), then hit it every 2 times it heats up (rule of thumb). Most bud lasts me 20 minutes, the good stuff I can vape for 30 min (although I guess I'm not sure if thats water vapor or THC vapor that late in the game). For me a pipe is 3 and iolite is a 9 or 10 (although for me personally its harsher on my throat than a pipe, still worth it as that feeling goes away pretty quick). You also need to use a good butane, one that is at least 3-4x filtered? There are a couple brands you are not supposed to use with them for some reason, maybe thats why it isn't getting hot enough for you? I'm using Mega Plus 5x and its working great for me.

I suppose there is also a chance you just got a bad unit (I doubt this though as I've only heard of it once or twice in the last few years), even though I doubt you bought from a seller who could legally sell the warranty (most who can sell an iolite set for $200), you could probably get a replacement from the North America base like I did (they upgraded my 1st gen iolite to a 2nd gen + spare parts for free and I had bought from the wrong seller!)

I usually wait until it reheats the second time to start hitting it. I am getting some good hits because I can taste what I call that soil taste and can see some vapor.

I don't have a grinder(need to get one), but do cut it up with sissors which is a sticky mess but works ok.

The butane I use is called NEON Universal gas lighter refill. It doesn't state x filtered. Just says ultra refined. Maybe that's the problem.

What's funny is I somewhat over dried a batch of some auto ak47 x Lowryder#2 I did about four months ago. That seems to get me higher than my sticky Afgan Kush Ryder with the Iolite. Should be the other way around.

I will be looking for a grinder and better butane.

Yeah I think a grinder will make a big difference, I have no idea if that is a good butane or not , the stuff I've been using lately is Mega Plus 5x and I know that works. I imagine the sticky is more wet so perhaps it takes more effort to vaporize it (that would be more of a problem for vaporizers that make you suck instead of filling a bag). I know my iolite rocks so its a bummer to see you having trouble with yours, mine served me great until I upgraded to a volcano (but I still use the iolite sometimes)

So, when I picked up my Iolite a few weeks ago I was told to take long slow draws lasting 15 secs or so. I would say the draw was at 40%.

Last night I exhaled all I could and took draws at about 80% and held it for 10 secs or so. Huge difference. More visible vapor. The "high" was up there.

The NEON butane I am using seems fine. Still need to pick up a grinder though.

Yeah there's def a learning curve that goes along with using a vape. You're on the right track taking long slow hits.

I've had my iolite for about 10 months now. At first I had my doubts about whether the ignition system would last. but its still going strong.

Overall I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

I definitely dropped mine bad a few times and it was still chugging along after a year and a half of daily use. I think they're a lot stronger than they seem they should be. The clicky button starter thing doesn't seem like it would ever break itself, I think the only thing you really ever have to worry about is that thin strip that glows breaking, but it sounds like that takes at least 3-4 years of using it several times a day unless it was defective and died after a few use. These things last a long time and you virtually never have to clean them either, just butane!

If you use the iolite right you can get huge dense clouds of smoke you just need to be patient. First off dont start hittin after the burner kicks off the first time I let mine heat up a total of 3 cycles the start up then two more then take slow deep hits until it just about chokes me then let it burn one or two more cycles which is better and repeat i quit hittin when it tastes like dirt and the vapors feel dry in my mouth. Do this and you will have a much more enjoyable experience. Also as an added touch I use like 16" of hose and it makes the hits way better. You can buy the hose from walmart by the fish tanks it fits right in the mouth piece I coil mine and use bread ties to keep it neat.100_0558.jpg

If you're still having trouble deciding, check out this Iolite Review site... it's got pictures and a pretty good review of the Iolite. It's also got some tips for using it and maintaining it better. There's also a more general vaporizer comparison page if you're looking to compare the Iolite to several other popular vaporizers like the MFLB, VaporGenie, Vapir Oxygen, etc.

i have the iolite and a volcano reason..... volcano is not very portable but i like how easy it is. the iolite is a bitch ( pardon me ) but getting it lit causes me to say words i am ashamed of and filling it with butane will make u crazy but once filled and lit it works if u dont draw too hard etc etc. the bag on the vaporizer is excellent. fill and sit back and enjoy no hassels and no stress

I bought an iolite last year at Hempfest in Seattle. it came with 5x refined gas and a metal grinder. I had it for about 4-6 months before I traded towards a Volcano and I used it damn near every day and multiple times at that. That being said i have a few things I would like to rant about.

It did have a bit of a learning curve with it. Less is more so to say with the bowl. The less I put in the bowl the fatter hits I would get. It would also heat faster, rather than waiting 2-3 cycles I could hit it after the first cycle with less in it.
Also after awhile the can of gas that the folks at the fest hooked it up with ran out. This was a huge deal for me. I had some standard lighter butane and it was foul. Do Not use "Robinson" brand in it. The refined butane Does make a difference. After looking at almost every smoke shop in the county I found some at a cigar shop that was 3x refined and it was better. not as good as the Vortex(5x) stuff that came with my vape but better. With the Vortex gas I was able to get close to 2 hours like the folks at the fest said I would get and it was a cleaner taste. The 3x stuff I was able to get was okay and the Robinson stuff....Well it was bad, I would get like 15 minutes sessions with it and put off a pretty foul smell when the unit discharged the gas.

The only other thing I did not really care about was the mouthpiece. When used often it needed to be cleaned often or the mouthpiece would slide around or fall off. I think they should add threads to it similar to the end of the piece that screw into the unit. I feel that would make it a much more solid unit. Tho I did drop it a couple of times on my hardwood floors it survived the falls. All n all it was a great unit when used with the right butane. Like I said I traded it towards a Volcano otherwise I would still have the unit.

This years hempfest just ended and I came home with a No2 Made by Vapir. A bit different than the iolite but just as good if not better. this unit can be ran from a wall plug or from a battery. It does heat faster while plugged in and the battery seems to only go for 45-70 minutes tho I have not put it to a full test just yet. The battery also has a mini usb slot on it. Tho I have not used it yet I assume I could use a standard mini usb with some type of cell phone car charger or even plugged into a laptop while traveling.

The plus side to this portable vape is the digital interface that allows you to change the temp upwards to 400F. I find this great compared to the iolite and it's fixed temp heating element.

i got a iolite and think it works pretty good as long as chamber is not packed to tightly, will choke me. fwiw never had any other vape devices to compare it to.
