Hey, I sent an email to [email protected], it's in regards to 2 led setups for 4x4 grow spaces, I believe you previously mentioned you could give me two kits to replace my 600w hps's. I sent it on the 26th

I think it's good to have the plants stretch a bit first, then bring the light closer for the dense buds. Trying that on my next grow.
I like to let them stretch for the light, like they want it. And ill give em as much as they like until it starts having negative effects on them.

Upon returning after my hiatus, i stumbled upon you first cobkits. Read the first 9 pages. Well done withstanding the test of time so far. And seems you've been improving your business the whole time. Right on! Was cool to read.

When i left. Cobs were just coming on to the scene. I was very interested. I was following grenegenes and his business and grows.
Now, im lookin to possibly build a cob light finally like i intended. Unless the option of buying one made is available and considerable.
Already an led fan. Started out with leds. Never looked back.

The cob would go into a 2x4 tent. I have some 2x2.5 i could maybe use cobs in too, but i already have some old A51 panels.

Now my main inquiry is roughly how much money, and time (again, roughly...) would it take to build a sufficient panel for a 2x4?

Lots of variables:
Efficiency
Cost
Time

Something really efficient would cost more and take more time. More efficiency, more COBs driven at lower amps

You could have 2 COBs cover that I'm sure. Wouldn't be as efficient due to needing higher amps, but would be cheaper.

I spent about $350 on 6 COBs and the drivers and framing.

You could probably get something done for about $200 if you didn't care about efficiency

Anybody feel free to correct me

Thanks for your insight. You're right. First i need to determine if i want drive them hard or soft. Im not sure i know all the pros and cons though besides, hard=cheaper up front, less work to do, shorter lifespan, not sure how plants would be affected.

And i guess electricity consumption is a factor. Not sure which option would use more though. Soft driving with more cobs, or hard driving with less cobs.

If I was to do it over, I'd use 2 or 3 COBs and drive them a tad harder.

COBs are cheap to replace. It's the drivers, heatsinks, and shipping of those 2 that are expensive upfront.

Expect COBs to last a long time regardless. Long as they're cooled properly, probably negligible.

I went with 6 CXM22 3000Ks. The 3500Ks I wanted weren't in stock. I think these are still considered great bang for buck if I'm not mistaken

Why is my HLG-240-C1050A reading 280W if I only have 220W COBs (6x 1212)? I run on 230V at wall, so driver is 93 or 94% efficient.
Seems like I get replica MW driver or what? I was expecting max.250W with all loses.

If you turn the Io adjust pot all the way up that driver can output up to 1.28A (at least that is what the meanwell test report says: http://www.meanwell.com/webapp/product/search.aspx?prod=hlg-240h-c&pdf=SExHLTI0MEgtQzEwNTAtcnB0LnBkZg==&a=2) so that may be why you see 280W at the wall?
