Intake and exhaust

Thinking more on this, what about making an exhaust in the ceiling to the attic have my ducked run from the room to the attic where I mount my fan and filter. The ONLY thing I don't know if it is a problem or not is having to push the air through the filter to be scrubbed. It would be outside the closet so this would be fine right? I think I am getting a Phresh filter so I just put the filter on the inside to Push the air through correct? Will this still keep the room cool or should I be pulling air through my hoods?

I guess the other option would be to mount the filter inside the room, have it set up Filter,Fan,Run through the cool tube and exhaust out?

Which would work better for closet. 2.5 x 3.5 x 5' height? The height is actually around 9' but I will probably cut that in to a little over 5'

Also Suggestions... Should I go with the Phresh 6x16 400cfm or the 6x24 500cfm? or is that over kill? room is 2.5 x 3.5 x 5
I want to keep smell to a minimal low as possible.

I would take advantage of the ceiling height you have. My very first set up was as you described, filter in room, fan pulling through the filter and pushing through the light fixture and exhausting out to atsmophere. That worked okay, especially during winter but come summer it was just to dam hot. I mounted the carbon filter up as high as I could...heat rises, so I acomplished two things. 1) expelled the hottest air in the space. 2) controlled odor while fan was runnung.

Now since you mentioned the idea of running the duct work into the attic, I would consider spending a little more cash and cool the light on a seperate, dedicated run. You would need another fan and some more flex but the difference would be tremendous. I would draw cool air out of the attic and run it through the light and exhaust it as close to the attic vent as I could. I would do the same thing for the filter....run it on a seperate run out into the attic close to the attic vent. Ya it involves cutting a few holes in the ceiling but I just save the circular cut outs and number them. Write the number on the cut out and on the celing next to the hole where that cut out came off....later on if you have to repair the holes ...its a breeze.

When you bring in your fresh air to the space you will balance the pressure within the room....so you can eliminate any negative pressure. If you see that during winter that your room temps are running a little to cool, plug the fan that cools the light into a fan speed controller and slow the fan down...that will let the temp rise in your space. You can also set up your fan for the filter and the fresh air fan on a temp control unit so that they kick on or off on your desired temps. In other words if your space drops below 70 degrees, those fans will kick off. By the same token, if it gets to hot...say 80 degrees, those fans will kick on....Your filter fan will help expell extra heat as well. just examples.

Sounds good. I think with a new intake though instead of getting intake from the attic as well maybe pull fresh air from under the house? This was my original thought. Thanks

I think I am going to get either the 6" x 16" 750 cfm filter, the 10x12 700 cfm, or the 8x16 700 cfm.
Will a 720 or 745 cfm inline fan work here or do I need to go bigger if i get the 6x16 750 cfm? Do you think these are overkill? I just want to make sure there is no smell.

And how are the Phresh filters? That is what I am looking at.

Dude my flower room is roughly 5' x 10' x 8.5'. My veg room is slightly smaller. I use a single 6" iPower carbon filter in each of my two rooms, Y-piped into 8" duct connected to a 720CFM fan and a duct muffler.
My exhaust is silent and odor free, and it takes all of about a minute and a half to exchange air in both rooms.

Do you think it would be too much fan and filter? I was thinking just turn the fan down but I dont know if the filter would still work if I did that? I am sure I would not have to run the fan on high 24/7 but will the filter work with the fan only pulling half or low settings??? Point of going big on fan was to turn it down to reduce noise. Should I just go with a 6"?

Going big and running it on a speed controller = A good way to go IMO.

I do think a 6" setup is plenty, but you can go bigger and dial it down if that makes you feel better. Kinda depends ... If you think you might ever want/actually need an 8" vent system, might as well just buy it now.

If I run a 8"x16" rated at 750 cfm and I run a 745 cfm fan on half speed, will the filter still work properly or would I need to get a smaller filter to compensate having to turn the speed of the fan down? Also If I ended up with heat problems and had to turn the fan up I would be pulling too much air through a smaller filter then the filter would not work properly correct? Just making sure I understand this all so I choose whats best. Thanks

I just ordered my Inline Fan and I bought a Hurricane Inline Fan 8"inch 745 CFMd

I go to order my Filter and I notice it says Phresh Intake Filter... Got me thinking... So I think it is a knockoff it is almost $100 cheaper than the other Phresh Filters I saw.

I can't believe people try and ripoff like that WTH...

Anyhow the guy I bought the inline from was cool he knocked 5 bucks off the bin price and gave me his number said he will take good care of me outside of ebay. So looks like I score a good hydro garden contact too. SWEET!

***Edit***
And I just learned the Phresh Intake fan is not a knockoff but rather just an intake fan, which can be used for exhaust but it is not recommended. Cool. Ill buy the one made for exhaust that cost more and is intended for exhaust.

you want a filter with the same cfm, or a large cfm rating then your fan.

If your fan is on half speed and you got a 800cfm filter it will be fine

if your fan is on full speed and you got a 800 cfm filter it will still be fine

I get larger then my cfm rating just because I want to ensure smell is taken care of.

Right. So your filter says 750cfm ... It can filter smells at up to 750CFM. If you pull air through at twice the speed, you should get about half as much filtration. You can go slower all day and get full filtration, you just can't exceed 750CFM ... Which you won't.

That will work to....you just want the coolest air possible. Now come winter you need to watch that the air cooling the light is not so dam cold that your glass on your light fixture starts to condensate. I think pulling out of crawl space will wk just fine.
