one more thing ,the panels i included a link above then you wire to a charge controller mppt [ increases 30%]aplollot-80 either sunelectric or arizona wind and sun wire to nec dissconnect [home depot or lowes] batteries then inverter sine wave . i have a 24vdc system only because i wanted to buy a 24 vdc ref [ rv type].concurning roof mount or pole mount that is your choice,me i can not clean bird shit off the panels on the roof and reajust twice a year because medical mj i buy my invertes on ebay with warrenties

So...solardave, the op was wanting to setup solar panels inside his grow room, under a grow light to power fans, exc....do you think that is a good idea? Wouldn't that take space from your plants?

yes your right concurning inside but outside on the roof depending on pitch i perfer on the ground on a pole easier to mount,clean and matain,etc. and on the ground easer on insurance $$$. on the ground i get the morning sun afternoon and evening sun. i have four panels per pole 205 watts dc each hooked with unstrute [home depot or lowes 25.00 for 10 ft.} with no dectutable insurance about 400.00 a year. concurning fans i run eight 12 vdc form computors no problem

spanishfly-how is using a small solar panel to recycle your HID light to power a fan inefficient?? you would be recycling your engery into more energy. So you would be saving money instead of plugging in an using more. The investment for solar is more then most people could afford right now, and good luck getting a loan.
trichlone- there are grow ops that do not have the luxury of just placing plants everywhere, so for those grows I think this would be a good idea.

your right solar cost money a lot in my case 12 grand,this how i look at it when i lived in no. calif i paid 250 a month, in las vegas i pay 250 .00 a month for electric thats three grand a year in my case the solar paid for its self in three years no more pge,. without obama 30 % federal tax rebate in the first year .so it paid for itself allready.but you allso right getting a loan was hard.but over all it worked for me. i sat on by laptop for four months trying to get a green loan, thanks i had medical mj

What I mean is these 4''x 8'' solar panels inside a small grow room powering a fan from a computer just to move air around.

no problem make sure you get a 12vdc solar panel,if you put a battery inline with a fuseble link you can run two computor fans,wheelchair battery at costco 52.00 ,done deal
