Important Light Question

I recently went to a hydro shop to purchase a 150watt HPS ballast and lamp. After paying and loading all the stuff in my car I ask the guy again is it a 150watt HPS and he replys its a 175watt metal halide. He said I could get a HPS bulb and throw it in there, he just didnt have one..

So I grab the HPS bulb, try to fire it up and nothing. I assume I need a HPS ballast for this thing to work.

So what do I do. I read that it will produce lighter fluffy buds compared to HPS. Do I return it after I get another one since im in the middle of flowering?? And will and HPS work during the veg cycle??

no if u bought it in a legit shop tell them they need to exchange it at the very least since the clerk misiformed u ask for the manager if u have to and if they still dont want to make a scene if front of potential customer cant imagine the manager wont let u return it if u explain what the clerk did

HPS will work fine during the veg cycle... its just been said that the MH bulb is better during veg due to its color spectrum and the kind if light (spectrum) plants use during veg.

in the op he said he is in the middle of flowering so this info is no good to him.

id deffo take it back to the shop and id get the idiot that sold it to you to give you what you are looking for.

Just an update. I went back with it and the guys there said that I can try it for a harvest and if im not happy with the results I can return it. I think it was like 20 bucks more for a 250HPS which I may do. I was also thinking of getting a digital ballast. I spent around 150 total for ballast bulb and reflector(they gave me that free)
Around how much more would it be for a digital ballast?? They said that if I got one you have to use the same wattage bulb as ballast.. and people have been saying that u can use a 175 ballast with a 150 bulb, im confused??

I believe HPS conversion bulbs will work in Mh ballasts...but not the other way around so if you got a regular HPS bulb try a conversion HPS and I bet it works.
