I read your entire post, Leilani. While I agee with some of it, like Bush for example, I take issue with a lot of your other points. That's understandable though ... I'm a conservative/libertarian and you're a liberal/libertarian ... I think.

One thing that I would like you to clarify, if you will ... why do you lump Pat Buchanan in with the NeoCons?

The term liberal fascism refers to the food police, the tobacco Nazis, the drug warriors, Child Proctective Services, Americans with Disibilities Act, motorcycle helmet laws, seat belt laws, ... etc.

lots of bashing going on here.. smoke a j kids! deep breaths, here i'll start. puff puff,..... give:eyesmoke:

everyone trying to convince everyone else of there point.

i'm a constitutionalist. i want our constitution and our bill of rights to be upheld and honored. i think going toe to toe, point by point, has never brought minds together. it just works towards separating people, and separation of people nurtures intolerance. i've never had any success trying to convince someone else of my point. lol. hows that working for the rest of ya?

my 2 cents are almost spent here...mccain isn't a bad guy, but clearly he's cooked. lol. no he just reminds me of harry anslinger. and god knows i'm not voting for harry,.. .

How many of us here are better off today then we were 4 or 8 years ago? I'll tell you man, I've taken a beating these last several years. i'm not interested in more, so i'll be voting for something different.

I'm better off today than I was 4 years ago, but that has nothing to do with who is in office, or isn't in office, that has to do with me gathering knowledge that allowed me to find a better job.

Asking if we are better of or not is a moot point. The question isn't what has happened in the past, but what will happen in the future, and from my perspective, a future with Obama is dark, dreary and one that will lead to the enslavement of the American People.

As far as the debates going on. How else do people get and stay informed but by talking about the issues.

It is the greatest sin of a free people to ostracize those who would debate politics, and one that will see a nation enslaved with out its knowledge or approval.

I'd say it'd be entertaining, but more than likely it'll bore you out of your mind. Talking about politics is best done when high, drunk, or when it becomes relevant (which is about 3 - 6 months every 2 years.)

What diffrence are any of you making didn't the first election with bush tell you anything. elections can be bought. Your vote doesn't matter. were all gonna be fucked no matter what. It will change again. Getting a new president isn't gonna change what or how we live. It only creates controvesy between people. My views are better than yours. Fuck that I have a good buzz on this thread is a buzz kill. Just vote on munber 2 if you live in MA lol

Asking if we are better is not a moot point. Aside from that, I agree with everything else you've written in the last two paragraphs below that in your post. It sure as hell is a good idea to debate these topics

Re your being better off because you've found other ways to make a better living? Well, then you are an exception to the rule. The jobless rates are high, our debts are scary as all hell, and the economy is a mess. Just look at the price of gold. Geeze, back in '03, it was $300 and change. What's it at today? way, way high. The Canadian dollar is worth more than a greenback. The price of food has skyrocketed. We're in deep, deep quick sand. If you're better off, I'm glad for you, but that is simply not the case for the rest of the country, collectively. We're a mess.

Vi, regarding food police, etc, being a form of facsism, I do think it's important to clarify that you are using the term in a conversationalist way, rather than a political science term. Fascism is a disease of western industrialized nations, with specific symptoms.

Kinda like the food nazi on Seinfeld. Remember that? The guy was not a fascist, just a jerk, making up and changing rules by the minute. I think that's along the lines of what you are talking about, just exaggerated for comedy's sake.

Agree?

Yes, I think you sound like a conservative libertarian. I'm a liberal with a fairly wide streak of libertarianism running through my veins. I want the government OUT of my personal life; however, as I mentioned up the thread, things like poisoned fish? That infuriates me. So does this administration's blatant disregard for our civil rights. This has been insane.

I gotta go. I'm sure everyone will be just crushed, but I have to finish working tonight. Vi, I'll get back to you more on that book, but I have too much going on right now to get into details. I did go over the whole synopsis, though.

Oh, Buchanan? Well, you know what? You may be right that he is not exactly a neo-con, but he IS part of the republican machine, and in a big way. I used him as an example in my liberal media expose because he has said those words that make it clear as a bell that the whole thing's a myth (the liberal media, I mean). And the fact that he has worked for several republican presidents in a communications role makes his appraisal of the media especially pertinent to any discussion of the media.

Good book for you to check out: The Right Wing Noise Machine. Seriously, go check that one out on amazon. Written by someone who was in on the whole thing, and in a very, very sinister way; Brock is his name, I think, David Brock. Check that one out, okay?

Later.

Good night Diane.

Fuck the military, fuck the "need" to go to war. How bout legalization and everyone sit back and smoke a fuckin bowl?

Neither candidate gets my vote. And who cares if its "only 1 vote"?? its 1 vote that neither will get. IMO fuck them both. As for who will actually win? I think Obama mainly because hes part of the "bloodline".

Well, don't forget that we're also choosing senate and house reps; that's important too. And yes, the president, or rather an administration, makes a difference. Where've ya been the last 200+ years??

As for the elections being bought--yes. For Obama/Biden to win, they have to win by a landslide. And one thing I will hold Obama to is his pledge that lobbyists will have no place in his administration. That would include the likes of Diebold and all the other corporate lobbyists. For a voting machine company to have ties like Diebold has to the R party is insane.

If you want your vote to count, check out your state's election site for how to vote early. I can vote in about two weeks. Those votes are counted, because they're not done on the no-paper-trail machines.

In '06, FLorida and Ohio had very suspicious results again. Throw out the lobbyists and we might get our republic back under control of the people, kind of like it was intended in the first place. Don't give up, though, because of the machines. Not all states and precincts use them.

Get informed, write your congressional reps, and see who's looking out for your interests. My house rep always replies quickly, and I approve of just about every vote he casts. He's answered questions about the machines too.

Sorry, I don't live in MASS, so I can't help you :-(

Yeah, I agree, Leilani. Socialism isn't a terrible thing, provided that it's not the ONLY thing. Capitalism in most areas, and socialism for things where it's obvious that everyone benefits, seems like the best-working mixture. Like our space program. We may watch China build the first moonbase (because it appears we'll be too broke to compete with them), but it was socialism that put the first man on the moon, OUR man.

Education is socialized too, and it should be. We all benefit from having a better-educated populace. That's what's a little odd about fighting against universal health care -- it's good for our populace to be intellectually healthy, but it's somehow NOT good for our population to be physically healthy? What? So we'll gladly help educate people...and then let them die, killing our investment right along with them. I mean, duh, that's just idiotic.
I am just killing some down time I have right now and decided to relax a bit by reading some of the posts a few pages back. I knew, from MedMan's comments about schools, that I had missed some posts about that.

So along those lines, Bongulator, this is a great post. I could not agree more. It IS idiotic.

I recall once hearing a gay guy that I worked for asking why he should be expected to pay taxes to support schools, when he knew he would never have children. My answer: Do you really want to be living in a world run by uneducated **adults** when you are older? He nodded his head: yeah, good point.

Like Bongulator noted here, we all benefit from an educated populace.

UnderTheIce (I think that's the screen name, sorry if I got it wrong) has countered this argument with comments about socialism (that are way too strong, exaggerated, in my opinion), saying that we are turning out uneducated fools, basically, and that the system is already failing.

That statement is true--but only to a certain extent. The first thing we all need to acknowledge is that public schools and their quality are mostly determined by the states, and within the states, determined by individual counties. Yes, the federal government does play a role, but the states' roles are much, much bigger. That's why in states like Mississippi and Alabama--very poor states, right?--have such poor quality schools.

And then you have states like New York, where taxes are higher, the schools are superb. Teachers from states like that also make good salaries and retire with good pensions. The end result: a more highly educated populace, able to earn and produce more and enhance the quality of life in general.

Those are your taxes at work.

Now back to what Bongulator wrote: that socialism is not a terrible thing, as long as it's not the only thing. YES! It's so glaringly apparent that Americans hear the word "socialism" and get a knee jerk response that is nothing but a hangover from the olden days of the 50's, 60's, and 70's; too many people hear that word and immediately think: OH NO! THAT'S COMMUNISM!

No, it is not. Not when our system is primarily capitalist with elements of socialism. Just like Bongulator wrote.

And to that end, I'm all for redoing our health care system. What a bunch of waste and inequality and plain old horseshit we are dealing with regarding health care. It's a god awful mess. No, sorry, we don't take your insurance here. Or, well, we do, but you have to pay up front and then be reimbursed by your insurance company on your own because we do not bill that company.

It's just stupid, like Bongulator said. And that's if nothing horrible happens. With the aging of the baby boomer population, just watch what is in store for us if we do not get a grip on this health care debacle. Alzheimers, cancer, all of that "old age" diseases? We are going to witness the destruction of pensions earned and saved, and disgraceful suffering--that we, the US, allow this to happen. We are the only western industrialized nation without national health care. Gee. Are all the people wrong, all the time, except for us?

Germany's health care system is the one I'd like to see us emulate. Their system is excellent.

Germany also pays for university educations for anyone who wants it and qualifies. They are doing well in many areas. We'd be smart to investigate how their systems work.

All done. Done with my break.

Great post, Bongulator.

True, totally agree. BUT! It's not new. K Rove has been a very busy guy these last twenty years. So have a lot of folks with "create PERSONAL wealth" via the PEOPLE. for a long, long time.

Highly recommend that book: The Republican Noise Machine

And McCaine/ He's angry, I think, really, really angry. More later. I just got back a couple of hours ago from Our Nation's Capital and I am toking, then going to sleep.

Vi? we're still on good terms? I hope.
