How hard can it be to be honest?

So, I have a Capital One credit card.

On December 29th, I ordered a time lock safe from a small company in Florida. The guy on the phone took my CC number, it went right through and he said it would arrive in 2 or 3 business days. (I paid $22.55 for 2 day USPS priority mail.) Total cost $166.66.

On January 6th, the safe still hadn't arrived. So I called Florida and the guy said he fucked up and would send it out that day, "even if I have to take it to the post office myself". He also said he'd refund $20 for my inconvenience. (He didn't).

I called on January 8th (11 times, lol) to make sure it was in the mail stream but I got no answer. I called again on the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. No answer.

So the afternoon of the 12th, I called Capital One to report I hadn't received ordered merchandise. They have a guarantee about getting your stuff. I made a report, got a claim number and they said they would refund my money and chase after the vendor for their money.

Not a half an hour later, the wife texts that a package came for me from Florida. It was the safe. I ran the tracking number, it was sent 3 days earlier on the 9th.

So I called Capital One again, reported that my merchandise came and I'm happy and wish to drop the claim. The girl says great, OK.

The next day, I now have a positive balance on that card of $166.66. So I called again to tell them I got the merchandise and am not entitled to the $166.66. Girl on phone says great, we'll take care of it.

A couple hours ago, I check my Capital One balance on line. Still a $166.66 positive balance now 11 days later. So I call again, explain everything again.

So the girl says we're still waiting for the vendor to respond. We can't take the refund back until he responds.

I tell her that's bizarre and that I received what I ordered a little late, reported it to Capital One 3 times now and can't understand why they don't believe me when I say I received the safe and am not entitled to the $166.66.

So she says it's not up to me and it's not up to Capital One. It's up to the vendor to dispute that he did indeed send the safe and present Capital One with tracking number to prove it.

So I tell her that I'll be happy to give her the tracking number. She says it has to come from the vendor, sorry. And he has 90 days from January 12th to take care of it.

So I ask, what if they had a covid outbreak or if a plane crashed into their building and he never responds to Capital One's inquiry on this matter?

And she says then you get to keep the money. I tell her I don't want the money, it's not mine, and both you know and I know from general common sense that this isn't right.

So she says she "understands my concern" but they have long standing established protocols to follow in matters like these and there is nothing she can do about it, but that I am free to call the vendor and 'work something out'.

WTF???????
It's like Capital One doesn't understand English and are too inflexible to deal with a complex but simply rectified problem.

Then I mention I'm at the end of the billing cycle and I like to have everything zeroed out so a zero balance is reported to the credit bureaus. And she says a positive balance is nothing to worry about.

So I ask if my balance is reported at -166.66, is she sure the credit bureaus will notice the minus sign in front of the 166.66 and she says she really doesn't know but she appreciates my business and hopes I like my Capital One experience over the last year since I got the card.

What the flying fuck goes on there?

I got the card because of those commercials with Jennifer Garner in them, maybe I should call her?

This is nuts.

FWIW, I've always used a AMEX account for any online purchases. They seem to handle customer dispute resolution different than VISA or MC.
I never call either, always email so there's a written record, no "he said she said" on a phone call.
I'm currently hassling with a liquor store that was supposed to ship back on Dec 23'rd and didn't. They refunded partially with a promise to ship remaining last week yada, yada. I'm actually embarrassed for the ownership of the company that such bad practices exist and hoping that they are unknowing rather than complicit.
I haven't had to pull the Amex gun yet, just planning my Yelp, BBB, Chamber of Commerce, FB, Google reviews of their service or rather lack of ;)

It's hard drawing a line and having morals and integrity isn't it, you try to do right and what do you know.
