It depends on how large you want your plant to be. People here like 23 watts and 42watt CFLs, and in great abundance. 4-5, 8-12. GardenKnowm states that CFLs should remain within 3 inches of foliage. So as long as you have lights within 3 inches of fan leaves/buds you are assured decent growth.

I would suggest you learn how to LST (Low-Stress-Training) your plants. This will give you numerous "tops" and will increase the amount of yield because each top will get equal light penetration. Much better than growing a 3-foot tall plant and only having one large cola at the top and lots of small, fluffy popcorn buds on the lower part of the plant.

Topping is another great way to keep the plant shorter, and if you follow his guide correctly, you'll be happy with the results. Keep in mind you could still tie the new branches down to get even more tops, buts that's up to you if you want to do that or not.

Awesome tips Dr.RR.

You may find more success with LST, topping your plant works well in ideal lighting, but if your keeping it to the bare minimum LST will allow you to train your plant in to a more dense shape where topping still leaves room for lengthy stems with lots of space between foliage in inadequate lighting. Topping and LSTing like Dr.RR said would work very nicely and make a great learning experience for your future grows.

If you plan to use 23watt CFLs, make sure you take the time to position the lights within the sweet spot(3") sometimes adjustments will need to be made daily. 23watt CFLs give are fantastic when positioned correctly and since you will use more of them, give a better spread of light. If you feel like you can't give your plant that much attention, or are unable to construct an appropriate light fixture, you may want to consider 42watt CFLs. They are a little bit more expensive, but you will require half as many for a successful grow. 42watt+ CFLs also hold strength for longer distances allowing you to place them further away from your plant while keeping within the lights sweet spot. I personally use 23watt CFLs at 6500K for vegetation and have 42watt 2700K for flowering so the more intense light can be placed near main colas for bud development. Personal choice, I found 42watts at Home D. for 8 bucks per, so thats how I decided.

With two plants I have harvested 2oz dry from 2x 42watt 2700k 4x 23watt 6500k. My current two plant setup consists of 6x 42watt 2700k and 4x 6500k, I expect 3-4oz from this harvest.

when the seed is still in the soil can u put plastic over it to make the humidity go up?
Only if you set the cup on fire.=P
Yes, and it is a good idea to do so, but remove the plastic when the seed sprouts.
