I heard of a dude name Chunk, on the Grasscity forum doing a kelp only grow. Do you think it’s possible? Chunk is a well respected organic grower over there, I think wetdog knows him.

I am a new grower and I am using my own EWC, well aged manure, and my own compost. This is kinda hard to answer because there are so many awesome amendments available. I have been using quite a few so far. PS. great thread.

I use the espoma brand which is 3-2-3 at the rate of half a cup per cubic ft plus top dressings throughout the grow. It is pretty hot I have burned plants with it, chicken manure pellets are usually aged but not fully composted and it smells like striong chicken shit and piss. It was hard to choose between that and wormcastings but I grow large outdoor plants and the pellets have a much stronger nutrient profile.

Em1 (for fermenting), alfalfa and kelp. Em can keep going, start your own compost and start a worm bins.

If you're looking to use fewer amendments bio live from down to earth is pretty good. It is a blend though. It's a mix of crab shell meal, kelp meal, alfalfa meal, fish bone meal, fish meal, shrimp shell meal, langbeinite, volcanic ash and mycos

Ewc,(homemade preferred) alfalfa meal, high phosphorus bat guano, organic seaweed extract has my vote. Ok its 4 instead of 3 sue me! Lol.

Grow in used recycled mix and when re-amending I might choose Alfalfa and Fish Bone Meal and and Kelp Meal. A lot of good options to keep things simple.

I think most fish meal and fish bone meal is made by only a few companies that sell to distributors. Then marketed under a private label.

3. Recycled media composted, with alfalfa, lots of fruit and veggies.

Happy frog soil with extra Canadian spagham peat, perlite, vermiculite
Rock dust
Ewc
Insect frass
Dolomite lime
Azos, mykos

Then top dress with 2.5-0.5-2.5 alfalfa from dte and 0-5-0 guano from grow more.

Then I use reverse osmosis water(or rain water if outdoor)with silica and cal mag from general organics, 20 pom silica, 170 ppm cal mag, 20 ppm epsom salt, and 1/4 strength seaweed. Also use buddah bloom from roots organics at 1/4 strength. Oh, also yucca, terpinator (1/4 strength) molasses, and mykos wp every watering ph at 6.4-6.8 with natural ph up and down from earth juice.

So my waterings go in rotation. Cal mag, silica etc, compost tea, and just r/o water with bennies.

I know this thread is about keeping it simple..but my question is why not grow the best you can? If you're already putting in so much work..90%or better of people who try mine say it's the best they've ever had.. just saying.

My compost tea I use is simple too. Just happy frog soil, ewc, humic acid and molasses brewed for 24-48 hrs then diluted 1:4.
