I'm slowly working my way through the beginning of the thread and can see there is a lot of info available for me to go through...really appreciate the efforts to make a compilation in one spot!

One quick question if anyone can be bothered to answer. I have a small cab that I'm using for a microgrow and am becoming curious about using LED as an option. This is the cab:

If I was to go LED, would something like a 135w UFO be ideal, or would that be overkill?

Here is link to exact one I'm looking at: http://www.amazon.com/Light-Watts-Flowering-Wavelength-Growing/dp/B00B7APQQA/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1383120300&sr=8-30&keywords=led+grow+light

If it's not a good choice, feel free to recommend me something else :)

Ah ok, thanks for pointing out that is the cheap Chinese model...I will look for something that is higher quality.

As for cutting a hole in the top of the cab, definitely not. Would not exactly be stealth then! I want it to look as unmanipulated as possible. Only holes will be in the bottom for intake and wiring, and in the very back for outtake.

Thanks for suggested a grow style but I do not have the seeds for a perpetual grow at the moment and don't want to deal with crossing strains or seeded bud. Going to grow two plants and perhaps turn cab into a home for bonsai moms and clones eventually if I mod a large dresser I have into a flowering cab with 150 / 250w hps.

the ufo you link to, is to expensive.. look at the link i posted.. you can get the lights in 10W, 20W, 30W ect. ;)
Not too expensive for me...I like high wattage :D

Thanks for the link but would I have to solder or rewire anything to get the wattage I'm looking for? I'm not too handy with electrical stuff so the less manipulation required, the better!

Ok, will try to find thread.

I'm familiar with CFLs, was just wondering if LED was perhaps cooler per watt? CFLs are cool but they can get hot when you add enough...would be nice if there was a cooler option to squeeze out more yield in such a tiny space.
Here is captainmorgan's thread: https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/656542-flowering-cree-bulbs.html

Also, hopefully you've read at least the first part of this thread and realize that the 135 watt light that you are referring to is nowhere near 135 watts.

With no technicality whatsoever and just trying to be helpful, yes an LED can be cooler than CFL...but not by leagues say like over an HID. The better quality the LED chips, the more efficient and therefore the more of your expensive and hot watt of electricity is turned into usable light. Cree, Philips, and Osram typically make the most efficient chips.

Thanks for the thread, have already been looking at it since someone suggested to me earlier. Looks like lots of good info in there.

And yes I read the beginning of thread, as said in my first post, and am aware that 135w is probably only half of what is claimed. That's why I'd want a least 135w in LED versus small watt setups.

I'm not expecting LED to be massively cooler, even just a few degrees gives me workaround room in that small space.

Appreciate the brand names, was looking at that in the youtube videos that someone posted comparing the differences. Still not sure which to go with over the others, but will have it planned out soon.

That looks pretty awesome...kinda pricey for 65w but if he does what it says, I can see why. Not looking to pay more than $200 USD though
Well Ganja Queen In Your Stealth Cab You Have Very Little Options For Your Light Source. If Were Me Id Go With The Hans But The Ufo Will Do Just Fine Also But The Hans Will Kick Its Azz.Anyho Good Luck In Your Research :bigjoint:

Thanks Dawg, I will take a closer look at the Hans for sure and see if I can work something out. If I go LED want it to be worth it. Thanks for the well wishes :)

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to know, I am already mounting DIY led panels to make some test, but this will just be for experimental process and use "bad 1W led".
I was wondering what panel can unable me to get rid of my 250W HPS in a 3x2 area
I thought of two VanQled 120W with a customized spectrum. it's basically 4 led 30W with 5 WW, 5 blue, 20 red.
they are using cheap 1W epiled 38mil for the multichips. (about 90-100lumen for the warmwhite as an example of how low is the efficiency).
then they add some lenses 90° and a active cooling. (I don't even know if it is quiet?!)
But the price is very low, less than a dollar the watt... I don't know what to expect as it is the same price than DIY but no work to do (I have just solder 24 x8 led 1W on MPCB and it's a pain in the ass... I will win only 10 to 20lumen per watt compare to them> as my bridgelux 45mil are 110-120lumen/W)

So guys if you have some ideas about this lamp, or grows to share please do it ;)
also if some panel seems more appropriate to you don't hesitate. :)

Hi every one,
i've been goin through this thread and can't seemn to find any info on ufo leds or led for 1 plant 2 at most..
Can anyone help me out as to what would be a good option for 1 plant ?!

Well I think it's safe for me to say that most folks around here don't seem to be UFO fans. CREE bulbs are the hot number for small grows right now. SMD/High Power WW/CW/630 arrays are probably better liked than UFOs. Ultimately a UFO grow ends up with the person adding CFLs or T5s. Some people have said they got OK numbers from them but I wouldn't recommend most UFOs, if any. You could go with a more high power option and dim it for your space but the question always comes down to $.

I decided that I'm going to fit my micro grow with Crees...hitting Home Depot tomorrow since it's pay day :)

Have been going through Captain Morgan's thread and browsing through this one and am learning significantly more than I knew even just a couple days ago, but can anyone perhaps point me in the direction of an in-depth guide breaking down LEDs for noobs? As in the terminology, diy for the electrically disinclined, and an explanation of how they operate in layman's terms?

EDIT: Nvm, found time to continue through thread and saw a few books mentioned. Just picked up 'LED Lighting, A Primer to Lighting the Future'. Guess I should have read further into thread before asking dumb questions :p
