But I can't seem to find any journals or real info besides manufactured info. Please any info would be appreciated even a parts breakdown would be nice.

Hello Eeryone!

I am hoping to get some help choosing the right LED light for my grow area. About a year ago, I was able to acquire 2 BC Northern Lights Producer grow boxes (with sensory overload upgrades, but only 3/6 sensors- pH, Ec, and temp) for a total of $950. Score! Thank You, Craigslist! Now, while the company would like to sell these with the Ronco idea of “set it and forget it,” as growers we all know there’s no such thing. After one grow that succumbed to bud rot and a subsequent grow that was ravaged by spider mites, I feel like I have good understanding of how these boxes work and am excited about retrofitting them with LEDs. After I get my LEDs I will provide more details of everything related to these boxes and actually start a journal in the Grow Journal area- until then, here is a stock photo to illustrate the space I am working with (Dimensions: 51”H x 54”W x 28”D):
View attachment 2853981

I edited the photo to circle the CFL socket. My plan is to continue to use this 125W CFL in conjunction with two identical LED grow lights, one on either side of the cfl. Currently, I only have veg CFL bulbs, but I could switch this out for a Flowering CFL bulb- to be determined later, hopefully with input from the community.

Considering each LED light will be only covering roughly a 2’ x 2’ area with roughly a 48" ceiling, what LED units should I be looking at? Ive been combing alibaba.com/aliexpress.com & ebay looking for a "deal," but honestly I just want to get the right light for my space. All input Iis welcomed & appreciated!!

Thanks!!
Cool box^^^ why the fuck is there NO circulation fan in it?? pretty small dimensions your working with and already have 125w of cfl in there. Hans panels won't fit?, and are too much wattage with those small computer exhaust fans^^ I would run 2 kessil WIDE angle red boosters, one on each side http://growershouse.com/kessil-h150w-wide-angle-led-grow-light-red or two astir flower panels , same setup and LOW wattage with remote ballast http://astirgrows.com/en/led-panels/498-24watt-led-panel-flowering-stage.html.

If I wanted to run a 900w Blackstar in a grow tent, how many autoflower plants should I grow under it in a 4ft x 4ft grow tent? I was also thinking about getting an 8ft x 4 ft grow tent so I could veg some photoperiod strains on the other side of the tent using the indirect light. Would it be better to place the HID in the middle of the 8ft x 4ft grow tent and just get diminishing yields on the plants that are farther away from the light?

Either 2 Area 51 sgs or 4 Hans Led panels. Then with either add some Cree a19 globes to fill out the rest of the space.

I think 2 Area 51 SGS160's will be stretching it in a 5x5. I'd be more inclined to run 4 in that size space. But hey, I'm like Tim the Toolman Taylor, MOARRR POWERRR!!!!

I know . The drunk comment was a joke too.

edit:

Buying anything rebranded is stupid is as stupid does.. Lol.

Buying rebranded and ebay led panels is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get...lol

Why would I buy a Sony tv when sharp makes everything Sony and sells the same thing for cheaper. I'd rather have Samsung though lol.

Would you buy the hans panel from hans or pay more at amazon?

Hi, I was looking into building an LED panel. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for LED combinations that seem to work well? I am interested in building dedicated panels for both flowering and vegetative growth. I'm just looking for a baseline to use as a control for future experiments. I was also looking for some reading suggestions that would help me understand what spectrum of light work well and why, if possible. Any helpful links are welcome really to be honest.

Thank you for your time. Resuming my studies.

hey all :hump:
i just made an account just to post in this ongoing post/sticky/forum/thread lol whatever you hipsters call it
but any who, i am interested in starting to grow :weed: and have been looking into leds because i have a little one and the fire hazard of hps, the high electricity bill, all the ever confusing (at least to me) ventilation systems/equipment etc. steered me to look into leds. I must admit i was looking on aliexpress/ebay just because of the price point BUT mama always told me to question everything and believe nothing until i see it for myself! So with that i started constantly researching and researching. After reading several posts on this site that ebay lights are crap, I came across GrowBlu LED on youtube. Oneshot (forget his entire user name) reviewed and grew a pretty nice looking crop with theses leds. they are affordable (in comparison with other leds) and seem to do a pretty alright job.
I guess in short is has anybody had any experience with these leds? Do they seem worth the price? Sorry if this was already discussed in this forum, just a LOT of pages to go through!
I am on about a $2500 budget and want to use a 4x4x6 grow tent, that is about all that i know at this point. The going back and forth over these LEDs makes me want to just use some t5s and some fans and all it a day as far as lighting goes, but i am determined to maximize efficiency and potency of my harvest! HELP HELP HELP

I may post in a separate thread (gosh i hope that is what they are called) to get some help with more of my specific questions. Anyways thanks to all that reply to me and my rant!

YOU GUYS ROCK ON THIS SITE!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to my world. First off, your budget is plenty to get several bad ass LED panels (and everything else you'd need). Honestly, you should be great to get going with around one grand (maybe less).

A lot of people on here swear by the Area 51 lights, and Blackstar (I think that's what it's called). I went with lights from Advanced LED. I got the 350 watt Diamond Series XML with the 10w CREEs. One of them would be more than enough for your grow space. I have 3 of them covering 15x12 room. Here's today in the garden.

Each Area51 light can cover a 2 x 3 area although a little smaller at 2 x 2 may be a little better. You would want at least two of these fixtures for a 4 x 4 space. These are excellent lights and should provide good service for a long time. Hans - bonsaihero.com - also makes a good panel...and there are others like rhino grow and apache. Hans provides fair recommendations for coverage as well...most manufacturers streeeeeetch the truth at best. I wouldn't purchase Blackstar - they have a reputation for needing repairs within about a year or so. You can easily supplement LED lighting - say sidelighting or in the corners, etc with fluorescent, if you desire/need due to the shape of your tent.

I built my own room and would recommend that you get something that is sturdy; it seems there's always something else that needs to be hung and everything is heavy. You don't want to ruin expensive equipment or a crop after you've put 3 - 5 months into the effort. I have heard that Gorilla tents are good but I'm definitely no expert on tents...just know that rooms take use/abuse so I'd look for sturdy and not try to cheap it unless you just have to.

A good exhaust fan is a must. If you can afford a variable speed one, you'll make it easier to control your environment. Good air circulation within the tent is also important so a nice oscillating fan for the space and a thermometer/hygrometer so you know the space temp and humidity.

You've said nothing about your grow style - maybe you haven't decided? Anyway, if you are interested in soil and possibly organic soil growing, I would go into the organic section here and start reading. I do soil only grows - little to no bottled nutrients - and have started recycled organic living soil (ROLS). There's also a good book that provides a lot of info laid out in an easy to read format - True Living Organics by The Rev. It's only $15 and easy to get from amazon. I don't slavishly follow any method but pick and choose and learn from many sources.

A good water source is something that you need to consider. Chlorine and chloramine are your enemies and hard water can make life difficult as well. Keep reading. :)

Can you build your own tent out of two by fours and thin plywood and mylar? It would be way sturdier than those pop up digs. Your money would go a lot further if you built your own. Not too sure about tents, because I have a room, but if I were doing a tent, I'd buy one bigger than I thought I would need at first... because you don't want to buy one, and then realize one year later that you could be kicking ass with a tent a little bit bigger or nicer (that's just how I think, though).

A lot of people swear by organics--and you might want to look into it once you get a few grows under your belt. I'd say first time out of the gate just go with some decent Fox Farms soil (Ocean Forest and Happy Frog). You can kick ass with just their grow big, tiger bloom, and big bloom nutes. That's pretty easy stuff to work with your first time out. If you're planning ahead, you won't mess around with the small bottles. Just get the big gallon or two gallon (can't remember the size) and go to town. Save a lot of money ordering it in large containers online. The little ones retail for like 20 bucks at stores near me. Ridiculous when I can get the big jugs for 50 online.

One bit of advice, before you set up your grow and start growing, order an arsenal of different seeds so you won't have to be ordering seeds to a live operation. Spend some money on quality strains so you will have options, now and in the future. I'd avoid clones like the damn plague, unless you know they are coming from another grower who has no problems with pests or molds... but you probably won't know that so just go with good seeds.

You do know the first rule right? Don't tell anyone. Not your mom, not your best friend, not anyone. That's different if you're in a legal state, but I still wouldn't be advertising it to anyone. That's why this forum exists, so all of us can meet and talk about this stuff and share our trials and triumphs without risking our asses in the real world. Make friends here and we will help you out and applaud your great grow. If you let others know you're growing, you'll risk rats and rippers. You'd be surprised what a person might do to get out of a DUI or possession charge. Don't risk it. Let us know all about it, but the rest of your immediate world probably shouldn't know a damn thing. Friends change and people change, and if you're growing those changes in friendships can be dangerous. Despite everything I've said, don't be paranoid. Be smart, but not paranoid. tens of thousands of people grow, and mostly it's those people who are breaking the law in other ways who get busted (stupid shit like search warrants for people and shit like that). When you look at your plants, just think to yourself, if these were tomatoes would I be worried about someone knowing I'm growing tomatoes? Unless you've told everyone you grow tomatoes, you shouldn't have any problems.
