Figured I would ask this over here :bigjoint: only a few people are using LEDs on the other section I normally visit :-P

Does anyone know anything on the "COB LED" style units? I have been looking into them for a little while and the price dropped like a boulder the other month (right after my other LED light purchase of course  )

Anyways it's a "300watt Light" (claims it's "4 x 75w") 'integrated LEDs'... I have an email out to the company to try and find out actual watts used on these "new(er)" models.

I want to be 'va'gue on the supplier as I haven't ordered from them yet, but they are (of course) based out of China and one of these "shipped" is ~$330 and has a really great looking spectrum all the way from 380 - 840nm according to the company, because they use COB integrated LED the spectrum is 'blended' perfect?

Thanks in advance for everyone's thoughts on the subject

**Pic(s) I found off a search engine, I am looking at a similar unit to this, I edited the light a little to get the suppliers name out  That is also the exact light spectrum the company claims the LED emits :leaf:

FYI, I got my SGS-160 for wholesale cost just for promising to write a grow journal about my first grow with it here. You only need to be a member with a history of grows journaled here and someone who gets along with others on this site (not a trouble maker). I sent him links to my previous journals. The discount was substantial.

It's on their FAQ page:

http://a51led.com/store/index.php?main_page=page&id=5

"Q: Do you give discounts for doing grow journals?
A: Yes we do, but it depends on who you are. If you're an established member on a known forum with a good standing with their community, we'll be glad to give you a discount for doing a journal. However, if you're not a member yet, no, we're not interested. And if you are a member, and are generally a troublesome person that does not do well with others, we do not want you representing our product.
"

You can probably use the discount coupon on top of that, but I'm not 100% sure.

They also give discounts for repeat buyers and multiple unit orders.

Thanks for that fast reply Ring. I will probably get one depending on the actual watts, I'm thinking I just need few more LED watts for my 5 x 5 tent :bigjoint: not to mention those nm graph they provided :-P

My concern with the COB lights are heat and burn-outs.
COB's run hotter than your standard light emitting diode, which can be a problem that shortens the life span of the unit.
Also, I have seen many chips just simply burn themselves out, at a way higher rate than the previously mentioned standard diodes.
You loose 1 or 2 diodes on an LED light, you're still good, you loose one 50W chip, ouch.
They seem to work, to an extent, but I think there is a lot of room for improvement with COB technology.

Hey guys, sorry for the nooby post but I've got a small grow about to happen and was wondering how much wattage I needed?

It's approximately 1.3 square feet and about 2 feet high, also any links to products/names would be sick.

Cheers

Edit:
It'd only be 1 plant at a time and they'll be auto's so hopefully height won't be an issue

The probable best option for your budget and tent dimensions is the Area51 SGS 160 or XGS 190

What Javadog said:
The Hans panel (also called Bonsaihero panel) would fit nicely in and wont be overkill for that space.
There is 65 and 80 watts versions (they are real watts, not supposed maximum watts), I think the 65 would be enough.

I ordered myself the XGS 190, my tent is 120x120x200. Seeing the tiny price difference between the two I'd rather go with the XGS than the SGS.

So I'm considering an LED due to heat/stealth issues. I've got a 3x3 flowering tent. What are my BEST options as of right now.... Budget is w/e. I'm really trying to figure out what my best wattage would be for my space. There is some real wonky stuff out there. Someone said that for my 3x3 tent I would need the CLW 800... So fill me in, please. Some people are saying that I can get dense nugs and great yields 200 watts and some say I need more than my current HPS (600 watts)

Grab a couple of Area 51 LED lights and your tent will be all set.
Best LED lights for the money.

Thank you very much for the info! Should I get 2 of the white light ones or one of each? This is just for my 3x3 flower room...
