The Hans Panel with CFL may do it as Psuagrow says.
It's hard to control temps well with an all-in-one HPS but if you can, then it should work well.
T5 is also a great idea. There are some wonderful PAR aquarium bulbs and you can adjust spectrum from veg to flower easily. I can recommend many different solutions for you but BS or lighthouse UFO..no...they neither perform well nor last well...really don't know what they do well other than separate people from their money.

point me in the direction of a good fluorescent tube setup where i wont have to change bulbs, like brands or where to look

HTG supply/good prices.bulbs included....go mix white spectrum grow/bloom bulbs, those par bulbs aren't worth the price IMO.
this is probably your best bet because thirty inches of height isn't allot of wiggle room with an hps....

at that point i may as well just get another 55w cfl in the 6500k spectrum and have the same lumens for a 1/5th of the price. im going to the the 150 hps and work around it

Psu. Im shaking my head. What about cmh...

Crack you can get. 205w cmh Philips all start and run on 250w mh mag ballast. That would do better and run cooler than a 150w hps and a cfl. Plus cfl's put out uvc ( no bueno) - skin cancer.

he doesn't want to spend the $$......he's looking at a the complete kit (150w) with bulb at eighty bucks and the 205w all start is only cooler with a remote ballast .

Oh an enclosed ballast light. Those are horrible. They create sooooo much heat..definitely will need a/c in there then.

I'd run 150w of 2ft Florescents instead of 150w HPS. Those "all in one" kits will work, but they do make a lot of heat.

Or any LED in that range.

I have a CAP 150w hps and that thing puts out more heat than a 600w wing. I don't use it anymore cause it makes so much heat for such low wattage. Plus I have a bunch of led's now days.

Planning to grow 9 plants in a 3x3x5 cabinet would this work? My friend has used one but for vegetables etc not for this purpose.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008A698KO/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8

I do have access to 2 full size grow lamps but thought this would be the best method with summer coming around keep the heat nice and low and save on electricity.

Any advice would be helpful! Thanks.

http://www.bonsaihero.com/ledgrow.html buying two will save you some $$$ and do a way better job and cover a 4x2(flower) with 130 total watts!! the all xt-e panel will come out later this year. I have the original and it still worked wonderfully.

If you don't want to go paypal, his panels are available on amazon too but at a higher cost.

What I've been looking for is: How many?, can I? run led panel(s) off of 12v deep cycle 8D batteries. Batteries that are typically used for house and electronics on larger boats, typically charged with a constavolt using wind, solar or a/c for power. Is this a driver issue? any info will be appreciated, I'll also keep looking....hey somthins smokin I gotta go
