identifying males..

What are the easiest way to findout if my plants are males? Can it actually convert them, if say a neighbour has a couple males within close proximity? I have heard tales but so far my past outdoor grows have gone well.

Males have balls, females have hairs.. and no males close by will not make your plants male, but could pollinate your females and make a shit load of seeds.
