I was looking at branded LED lighting and did some research ended up DIY LED grow light saving $$

Dude I have some kind xl1000’s I reviewed a few years ago sitting in my basement I’ll let you have for 200 a piece. I seriously can’t give them away. Sorry man like big green said a lot of these led manufacturers are nothing but lying assholes selling junk to guys willing to part with their money.

Lol on par with viparspectra lmao those are junk too man. Sorry but 240 Watts isn’t close period. These companies I swear. “1200” Watts comparable to 800 Watts while only pulling 240 Watts wow. Double chips that’s even better.
LED wattage and light production doesn't work the same way HID works watt for watt. You get more spectrum with LED which is why many people are having great results with them. Again, LED is a cheaper overall grow than HID. Simply because you have to invest more money into cooling and MUCH more money into an electric bill. Not to mention the heat signature for those people who do not live a rec legal state that allows personal grows. Yea, maybe HID will get 20% more yield, but that is offset by the amount of money I save.

I have 30 days to return the lights. I can also be a scumbag and just request a return on day 28, rebuy the lights again, and keep returning every 28 days as they come in and see how the grow goes. Its only gonna be like a total of 5 returns lol.

I run 6k I led Watts of leds I’ve built in my rooms. Currently running one room with some cmh 630’s. As for power consumption I don’t have to worry I run solar which was designed to power my house and rooms. All of rooms are connected to their own zone on my geothermal. I review lights an all sorts of stuff for a buddy that owns a grow shop so there’s that.

What you got was 2 240 watt lights period. They got you it’s ok you here now and can learn. I mean one review was from a supposed guy that was happy he got some fluffy bud! Then states he was used to using hps I call bs. No one that comes from any light that’s grown is happy about fluffy bud when they’re used to getting rock hard buds.
There’s a lot of us that run led they’re great but whether they’re kinds, black dog, clw, or bestva they all have one thing in common. They all blow regardless how much they cost.

Wattage draw does not equal the same as HID lights. LED emits light in a different and more efficient way. You’re trying to say my 1200w LED is on par with a 250w HPS/MH. That is far from the truth. And regardless, it’s about spectrum, not just power draw. Like I said, I’ll be saving more money in the long run. I’m not trying to compete with anyone in terms of getting massive weight yields. Me and you are on totally different ideas here.

Okay, again... I am not trying to be an a-hole, but please realize you are talking to probably the most informed group of LED lighting people on the planet on this forum (I am not including myself as being the best since I am no pioneer here). Seriously, RIU led guys as a group are very, very knowledgeable. You are regurgitating the sales pitch from the blurple manufacturers. Read, listen, read, and you will learn a lot -- like we all have. You can build a light that is almost twice as efficient as what you have there for just a little more $ than you have invested in your lights.

Here is a good thread to cut your teeth with on current led lighting.
https://www.rollitup.org/t/recommend-300-budget-light-for-a-friend.974539/

Also, your 2 lights will perform very well in a 2x4 growing area. The reliability may be questionable, but 480 watts over 8 square feet is a lot of light! You may need to raise or dim them. HID rule of thumb is 50 watts per square foot, new era led quantum boards, cobs, and strips you want about 30 watts per square foot of TRUE watts not imaginary "equivalent" wattage. The efficiency of your lights are about the same as HID. There is also nothing wrong with HID lighting either - it has been used to grow shit tons of great weed!

My friend, in no way do I think you’re an asshole. You’re stating your case as am I.

My very first grow was HID. I just don’t want the heat and electric bill. Think about it like this. You all may be growing some Lexus, Cadillac and Corvette level of bud. But I’m ok with a pretty decent Nissan Maxima or a Toyota 4-Runner TRD. See what I’m saying?

I understand they aren’t the same in wattage. I have cob setups running 600ish Watts that are on par with a 1000watt hid light. Your simply not going to get the equivalent to a light running such low wattage ie 240 coming close to an 800. Maybe it’ll come close to a 400 watt but that’s about it.

I am all about Dodge Cummins type bud. Big, heavy like a hammer, and stinky like a turd. And lots of it!

So what you’re saying is that I got a total of 800w over a 2x4 tent or 8sq ft with 6 feet of height to work with. Not having to worry nearly as much for heat dispersion and power cost?

How about this. Let the math decide. How much would it cost to run a single 800w HID with ballast in a 4x2x6 space. Including what it will require to keep such a small space cool with a light that probably creates more heat than a squirrel cage can cool? Give me a rough estimate.

First, I am NOT saying you have the equivalent of 800 watts of HID lighting. More like 500 watts of HID light, using "only" 480 watts of electricity. Your led lights produce plenty of heat as well. I consider it almost a wash as far as heat and power consumption with you having a slight advantage. I know this is not what you want to hear, but it is the truth. Your lights put out about the same amount of heat as a 500 watt HID, but over a larger area and you have fans built in to disperse the heat throughout your tent, not focused into a tiny area like an HID. Also, an HID ballast could be put outside the tent.

I checked the ad for your light on Amazon, which is where I found the actual wattage of 240 watts. Don't believe the advertisers bullshit claims of 1200 watts of lighting. It just ain't so.

Grow your grow. It should be good. If you can pull .5 grams per watt, that is still a sizable amount of bud. 1 gram per watt is more than a pound. You don't have to have the best, most high tech grow to keep yourself in meds!

BGT, I'd give up.
It's obvious that TGG doesn't have a good grasp on physics and thermodynamics.

Lol. Hopefully we at least planted a seed in his brain about it.
You are still missing the point. This is a cheaper grow in comparison to MH/HPS of equivalent wattage. If what you're saying is true, then both of these LED's combined will pump out about 800w-1000w, but at a 480w power draw total for both at the wall. Then it is safe to compare them to the same wattage MH/HPS. So 800w-1000w of MH/HPS will draw 800w-1000w at the socket. That is almost double the power consumption right there. Then i have to buy a ballast. And in a 4x2x6 tent, the heat will build up higher and faster. Which in turn requires better exhaust to keep the temps under 85(this is the max temp I would be ok with). My DWC water temps will also go up requiring me to invest money into a chiller, which again raises my power and hardware costs. What you're trying to present a case with is, that you have a gripe about the 1200w label on the LED grow lights not really being 1200w. 120 diodes at 10w a piece = 1200w. But again, lets say it really only puts out 400w per fixture, it is still much cheaper to run these than it would be to get 2- 400w HPS/MH or 1- 800w HPS/MH in MY tent. Power draw alone will save me $300+ with the LED's because I will not need a chiller nor will i need more equipment to keep my TENT and water at temperatures that wont kill my plants by heat or root rot.

Your math on the wattage you claiming is all wrong. You will still have to deal with the heat, as if it's a HID because of their less efficient design. You've just been duped by their flalse claims is all. Grow your grow out and see what you get in return.
