I need a new career...

Nah, I really like all of you cats in the Michigan section, but the lack of jobs, extreme temps, mosquitos as big as choppers, and the proximity of armys of nigglins is too much.

Thank you, Kemo, I miss you too and hope all is well for you. I'm just ridiculously busy, and this place is really struggling. I hope you are still here if/when I come back.

Nah, this is our finest hour. Pop back in from time to time. It's always darkest before the dawn.

Love you Clayton.

I use to work in oil field, as a rigger for a crane, in training to be a crane operator.. I was a rig mover.. The money was pretty fucking good, job was a nightmare! Starting off it paid about $70K a year for rigger and about $130k to $150k for a crane operator. But you worked sun up to when the fucking rig was moved. So 14 to 16 hours a day, and only had one or two days off a month. But everything was paid for, I mean everything but beer, cigarettes and tittie bar tabs.. But rain, snow, hail, 114F weather it did not matter if you were sick or had a broken finger. Very hellish job but they paid you to shut up and work.. Then all the shit talking, if you are a bitch you won't make it..
Quite possibly one of roughest jobs on earth.

Work with perpetually drunk/cranked up commercial fishermen sometime.
They get paid really well on a good boat, but the conditions are horrendous.

It's no surprise the accident rate is so high.

Yep, my crane operator was either on Roxies or meth, the motherfucker fell out of the crane after he nodded off one day, that's pretty much the when I decided "this guy is going to get me killed". You can not snitch in oilfield it's like the brotherhood of the oilfield, most of the guys are hardened ex-cons. So if you weren't happy, either you quit or shut up.. if you snitched you either got fired or a serious ass beating by the crew back at the hotel. And out in the pan handle of Texas aka "John Wayne country" it's pretty easy for one to go missing..

I really wished I just said I fucked up my back and milked the fuck out workers comp, but that's not my style..

This was the two years I was missing from RIU back from 2010 to 2012

Texas Panhandle is no joke, tough place to work outdoors. That's where my family homesteaded a lil more than a century ago, just between Spearman and Dalhart.

Our water is a little colder here.
You might last a couple of minutes lacking a dry suit - then your arms & legs just quit fuckn working.
I always wondered how the oilfield is in Alaska I hear the make two the three times as much as we did in Texas.. There is no way I'd make it up there.. heat is one thing, but frost bite and hypothermia is no joke.

I had a good friend get tossed overboard from a commercial trawler in the Gulf of Alaska, the crew managed to get a life ring to him but had to deal with the 250K net full of fish trailing behind the boat before they could get back to him.
He tied himself to the life ring knowing that was the only way they "might" find his body when the ship finally was able to turn around & get him (about 20 minutes later).
He knew he was dead & it was just a matter of time, but thank God he held on and made it.
It changed him.

What do you do? Do you like it? Do you have a life? Can I do it?
Things I have done and the pros and cons:

Sales associate at a retail store:

Pros: super fucking easy and you get to talk to people all day.

Cons: have to work nights and weekends. Money is OK if you get paid commission and you are good at sales. Mostly the money is shit though.

Bartender/ server:

Pros: get to talk to people. Easy to sell alcohol because everyone loves it. Money is VERY good, depending where you work.

Cons: you have to deal with a lot of bullshit and you're not allowed to punch customers in the face.

Remote camp cook:

Pros:
money is great. Most of the time you get to make whatever you want. People are very nice to the person that makes their food. You get a week or two off at a time, depending on the shift schedule.

Cons: very long days and you have to leave home for weeks at a time. Also you have to be alright with living in a remote area.

Current job: sales and marketing.

It's awesome. Hard job to get though. But if you have a decent résumé and are good at selling yourself - you can get any job.

GOOD LUCK!!!

P.s. you could always be a HAND MODEL.

Just sayin...

I worked in "The ring of fire", fly-in camps, tree-planting, thinning, spraying, SRD, MNR, Forest fire, FNRYEP (The first nation rangers youth employment program), drilling, exploration, and mining camps, over a period of 10 years.

All over Ontario and Alberta. Fort Mac Included. It was fun. But you have to be a Gypsy. I'm stoked to get to stay at my home base a little more now.

@Growan knows the Gypsy life. Its fun, until it's not anymore.

Not ALWAYS the only chick, tree planting camps are starting to be half and half.

I have been the only woman. Never ever experienced any horribly aggressive sexual advances or anything inappropriate really. Most of the really remote camps are "dry" camps (no alcohol) for this exact reason.

I have heard some horror stories. But I think the people in the camps were afraid to fuck with me. I'm very nice, to everyone really.

But you can tell, when you look in my eyes, that I am not a person you fuck with.

hahahahaha

My knife holder may have also had something to do with it....where is that picture....???

It's called "THE EX"
