I´m about to buy one more light to my tent and I need some help

Hi everyone!

I have a 4x4 grow tent but only a light that cover 2x4. The light I have today is a HLG 260w qb v2 rspec led grow light, link: https://hlg-uk-europe.com/product/quantum-boards-260w-qb-v2-rspec-led-grow-lights/ . I´m thinking about buying 1 more of the exact same model.

What do you guys (and girls of course) think, is that going to be good lighting for my tent? Or should I buy something else instead? I understand that I should have bought a bigger light to start with, but I had to split the cost, I couldn´t afford to buy a bigger light at the same time as I bought all the other grow equipment.

All the help i can get is greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million in advance!

Hej Sverige

both of those lights are considered top picks by most of us here

if you are new to growing i would probably recommend staying with the same light on the other side for symmetry, its a shit to have to figure out hanging height for 2 different lights.

ideally i would go for 2 bc blondes, slightly dimmed down.

Do you sell bcb lights anywhere in the eu region?

Nubee, if buying from the uk you better hurry up before brexit, or youll have to do customs

I am going with the HLG lights in a 5x5

I plan on 2x 260w XL rspec kits, and 1x 260w v2 4k kit. I will be able to keep the rspecs lower and the 4k higher during veg, and then the opposite during flower.

perhaps you could do something like this! one more rspec 260w kit and then a single 130w 4k kit for veg/ added blue

Yeah nothing wrong with your plan , that what I used to use in the same space but v1 versions. Plenty enough.
The other option is good too as is diyleduk's scope lights.

Hej Europa! :)

Yes, I have understood that they are quite popular lights, and it feels good that I didn´t buy a bad light to start with.

That is a very good point that I haven´t thought about myself, thanks a million for pointing that out to me!

Yes, I do believ they are selling them both from the UK and from Spain. Thats the two I know about anyway, maybe there are more places that are selling them. If I go with that light I will for sure order it from UK, I ordered from them the last time and I could not be happier with everything, they provide top notch service imo.

Yes, you are so very right about that, I will probably order the light today or tomorrow anyway, but I have to say that Brexit is really stupid in this and other areas. There are so many great companys from UK that is soon going to be very expensive to shop from.

Thanks a million for the answer!

That sounds like a really good Idea that I have to look in to a bit further down the line!

It sounds great, if it´s good enough for you, it´s for sure good enough for me. :)

Yes, BcBlondes lights look really good for what I understand, as do diyleduk´s light.

Well I can tell you My HLG 550 in my 3 x 3 foot tent gets better yields than my other HLG 550 in my 4x4 tent , after 7 grows in both tents.

I put it down to reflective light. in theory it shouldn't but it does.

this has been so constant , im thinking of downgrading my tent size to lift production, how fucked up is that?

3x3 tent , current running grow

Thanks for the answer!

That is very interesting to hear, it´s great when people like you makes comparisons "hands on", and after 7 grows with the same result it´s easy to see why you thinking about downsizing to only run 3x3 tents. How many plants do you grow in each tent?

And btw, I really wish that I can learn so much so that I in the future can grow as nice plants as you do, the looks really awesome!

That's pretty surprising to hear.
Same distance from canopy and stain?
I found it much easier to pull better weight using same methods in 4x4 spaces with 2x HLG260s than in 3x3 of 1m2 tents I have now.
But I can spread my lights a bit further apart. Do you run max wattage with the 550 in 3x3s? What do you pull out of that tent?

I´m, waiting on my light to be delivered today, and I wanted to ask you how far apart you hang your lights for best coverage?

I don't think I ever measured in my 4x4 (was actually an 8x4 with COBs on one half QBs on the other) But they were spaced to be slightly closer to the walls rather than bang even , that way the overlap wasnt too intense in the centre and got good coverage toward the walls.
Im more even spread in the smaller tents I have now, though I still like them a bit closer to walls.
I did try a few light meter apps to get reading but the ones I had were a bag of crap and gave a different reading every time so gave up with them.
I used to grow for a long while with HPS so im not really to anal about even light distribution either.

Hi yes I usually run at max wattage, in Summer if its really hot ill reduce down to 380 watts draw from the wall.

I run my light very close to the tops of my plants, 45cm ( probably a little close)

in my 3x3 i usually run 4-6 plants 6-8 in my 4 x 4 , around 2- 4 oz a plant with a 10 day veg. some plants have bigger yields than others, as i only grow from fem seeds not clones, I defoliate heavily and do HST, high stress training, in other words i soften stems and bend them horizontial / towards the ground to get as much light in the middle as possible, i flower all the way to the ground and dont trim off any branches off (im lazy) just fan leaves, pretty much everything with a leaf stalk. i tip once at 7cm high. 15cm tray potting mix, i use a lot of potassium silicate.

I do think my bigger tent should do better than my smaller tent, its probably just the way i do things. there are some differences between tents so its not a fair comparison. my 3 x 3 has less height runs hotter, dries out faster and my 4x4 is linked to my 3x3 , the 4x4 has a huge fan that sucks out air from both tents via negative pressure

Thanks a million for the great answer!

I will do as you do and have the lights slightly closer to the walls, it sounds more logical aswell when you think about the overlap. I´ll hang the second light this weekend when I have a little more time on my hands.

Thanks ever so much for the help!
