For best results, shoot for at least 50 watts per square foot. Unless you have a light mover, you'd need to make the actual growing area smaller. For the 50 watt rule, you'll need 12 square feet or a 3x3 area. Using the one plant per square foot rule, without a light mover, you should be able to grow 12 real nice plants with good yields.

I maybe a little late however, there is a light wattage calculator somewhere on the web and for a 4x7 you should be using no less than 1400w of hps. The best advice that anyone regardless of their math skills, lol, can give to you is to reduce your space using polyester aluminum (disposable survival blankets cheaper than mylar) around sturdy cardboard or plywood creating a so called wall with ventilation.

Alas you are too late. my house is lost in the forclosure epidemic.

I am now looking to planting outside in select places in the wilderness

you could light 4x4 of that room just fine, plus it would leave room to walk around and get to the plants, and you can do way more than 4, i would go with 10 which would be good sized and with a little luck i bet you could pull 3/4 pound without a problem, with a little more skill a pound is possible

9 is easier to uniformly place in the room, as opposed to 10. Anyways, i been trying forever to get 3/4 a pound but i usually just get around 9 oz with a 4X4 space and 600w. Can you really use emergency blankets instead of mylar???? Will this keep heat inside also?

how many plants you can fit depends on how long you plan to veg. if you dont veg at all and go straight to flower than you could fit 4 plants per square foot of light if you are gona veg a while then less. are you growing clones or seeds?:bigjoint:

your 600 would support the following

9 or 6 you will get much the same amount as a 600 can only support so much growth. If you have 9 the light penetration will stop at about 18" half way through your grow so only the top half of the plant gets light. If you go with 6 the light will penetrate further and you will get better growth on the bottom third of the plant.

Peace
