I am SO pissed... bud mold

So I've had this Hashberry plant that I topped and it looked like it was doing pretty damn good from the outside, with two rather huge colas and a couple smaller ones. Really, these were the buds of my dreams.

Those dreams were crushed yesterday, when I found the mold in the center tops. I wasn't too worried about mold, with AC on presumably sucking moisture out of the air, fans for circulation and some damp-rid crystals. But these last couple weeks I should have at least replenished the damp-rid as it was spent, and I should have paid more attention to what was going on inside those big buds. The growth was so dense I failed to notice crispy yellowing leaves deep within. I don't know if these dying leaves were part of the cause of the bud rot, or if they were just part of the result.

All I am certain of is that I am pissed. Not sure what the best course of action to take with the moldy buds would be. My guess is that they add up to a good 2 and a half, maybe 3+ ounces dry. It's either going to be ice water hash or butane extraction.

If you have big, dense colas make damn sure your humidity is low. Don't water or spray your plants with anything close to lights out.

If someone wishes me 2 liter bottle sized colas,I say no thanks.
My moldy bud is in the freezer for future canna oil,and hope it will be safe?
I have my timed Hepa air purifier on full blast now.I have been looking at ozone generators for spore killing.
I also started to top mid stretch to produce multiple smaller colas.I have to get a dehumidifier too.

Go attack a dead tree you moldy bitches!!!

I got bud mold on one grow...not that big of a deal I caught it early, so I just pulled out the affected parts and added them to my box of trimmings to make ice hash with...I have to pull the plants early, but early bud is better than no bud...
I keep a closer eye out now, but haven't seen any mold again...but I just know it is just waiting for it's chance to strike again!
I only lost a little bit of the overall as well...I got so super lucky with it though.
Mine happened because I had crammed too many plants in my flowering space and one had hermied, and then the little husks had started to mold after they died...boda bing boda boom moldy buds...lol.

I was thinking about getting an air filter, or one of those UV lights that is supposed to kill spores and pollen.

I learned the hard way with arm sized buds also. Now if they grow that big, I let them hang dry well beyond the outside feeling too dry.

You have to keep fans on in the room 24/7 and have the plants leaves moving in the airflow, this will stop the mold starting to begin with. Mold is caused from stagnant air at lights out.

High humidity in flower does not help either. That mold will seek and latch onto the bud.Dryer air will make the mold inert and kill off the non hardy.
My old setup incorporated an off lights fan,but timed at 30 mns every 1.5 hrs for a breeze effect.I have to reintroduce in new setup.
I have a hepa filter but it could not compete with a humid room.No heat issues so no a/c.Looking at dehumidifiers while letting a/c flow into room.
Looked into ozone generators for spore control.I found that if not in an a/c controlled room it is best to get one with replacable plates. The Ion charging plate corrodes the metal causing failure in a moist enviroment(best to prevent that enviro first).
I am thinking of a diy lighttrap box.Mounted inside is a UV florotube with remote mounted ballast. An inline fan will pull and exhaust air past UV tube.UV light is very dangerous and I would not chance it for flowering unless a remote mounted switch outside the room for manual operation.I do not know the effective CFM for such a setup, but I figure 80 cfm is good if the air is made to tumble or vortice in the ultra violet lights path.

Topped mid stretch for multiple colas.I am hoping it provides for mold resistance and easier detection for surgical removal.
My budrot bud is now (as I type) in a pot of Canola oil at 190*F,and on it's 4th hour.I am hoping the mold does not break down into something psychoactive?

Do not fret.Dialing in ones enviroment is a challenge with huge savory rewards.:weed:

i just bought and installed a reme it goes straight into the furnace duct......that should help kill pm spores......

bud rot is not from spores

...crispy yellowing leaves deep within...
i had what was (luckily) only the second instance of mold on indoor plants earlier this month. i would have never known it either except for a tell tale leaf. like you, i also had very dense buds on these plants. every leaf on the plants right down to the bottom was a perfectly healthy green.

but on one of my top colas, i noticed one night a withered yellow twisted ugly leaf. i knew to cut the bud off and go into another room to inspect because i did not want to crack it open around my other ladies. sure as shit, there was some mold in there.

good luck with repurposing those moldy fuckers, i just throw mine away but i know there are uses for them.

I have found that making sure any little dead leaves are removed pronto because dead leaves start to decay on a nice moist bud.I spend so much time checking my buds everyday and don't have any problem with bud rot indoors.
