Huge Buds

Hi, a seasoned grower here and am used to growing white widow however a friend gave me some bag seed that he said was purple kush. I grew a bunch and threw away the males and the weaklings and ended up with 5 small plants that grew large buds, one measures 15 inches long and almost 4 inches wide. They are getting close to take down time but they are not sticky and doesn't appear to be very much crystal on them. So is the the marijuana verson of "near beer", looks like beer, tastes like beer but has no puch? Any input would be great

It could be, it could be not. There are certainly strains that throw out huge colas and are great smokes, although granted, the general "rule" is that the higher yielding plant are not as heavy hitters. It could be either.

just because its from seed does not mean the plant will have a1 genetics . the original plant started to shoot out a bunch of seeds and it was time to stop growing that strand . and you planted seeds to reproduce the same strand that is known to shoot out seeds. 1 reason a plant will shoot seed is because you buy seeds from a good breeder . and clone it. then repeat the steps 10 times. keep cutting clones soon your example purple kush is no longer purple kush its starts to grow wild. and starts to do funky things , grow more leafs or starts to shoot seeds. and quality go away as well . that's why your plant does not have any thing to it . its just a so so plant now. so its not how you grew it. you could be in a best set up in the world. it will only grow as good as the mother plant . one quick trick. though . might help a little . feet it 1/4 cup sugar for gallon water when you start your flush. belive it or not it helps some.

There is zero known genetic correlation between bud size and potency as far as I know, the only distant relation would be what the breeder was selecting for in their generations, which may make it seem that they are linked, but it certainly is not a "rule".

No, it's not a rule, hence the use of the quotation marks, it is more a rule of thumb unless peoples grows show otherwise. Most strains i have grown or read up on that have monster yields are typically a lot less potent. There may not be any genetic correlation, but it doesn't stop it from being true more often than not.

This whole thing is just incorrect...

I've raised amazing looking , smelling, and tasting plants that produced little to no buzz(very rare though).. And awful looking plants that blew the top of my head off... Your not going to know til you harvest/cure it.

well guys I don't grow for personal smoke. I grow on a larger scale then some of you do . I post what I see and done in the past. and I don't mess with bulk or free seeds I know better . I could not afford that kind of loss if the plant came out shitty. I would a lot of people to answer to . and a 1500 a month electric bill X3 houses . I still have to pay out of pocket. would be fucked in the ass or sure
