so I need help with something. I’m trying to get my Vegetation room tent set up. I have a 8x4 flower room I have leds set up in there, my vegging room is going to be 4x4. My question is what do most of you guys grow with indoors now a days? Hps/mh lamps or leds? I need help with Deciding to get a 1000watt hps/mh dimmable lamp which is around $160 or just say fuck it spend 400 on a led for a vegging lamp?? I’m thinking I could just get away with just the cheap way but I know in the end I wouldn’t have to deal with heat with the LED. Just want to know what you guys think or maybe help me Decide.

Can you get an LED for 400 bucks to cover a 4x4? What kind of veg do you plan on doing? Mothers, little ones getting ready to flower?

If you don't want to make up strips and DIY look at Quantum boards and pricing and then decide.

People argue black and blue on here with the LED Vs HID. Bottom line is they all work and work well and more and more growers are going to LED. But do your research. LED can be a confusing option.

I don't think you need a 1000w HID for veg in a 4 x 4. 400-600 would work fine.

Use any light you feel comfortable spending your money on as any light will grow your medication. Don't let people here on RIU drag you into the "who has the best light" competition. The advice they give is sound BUT I've noticed people advising on light set ups that "they themselves" own or would love to own.
Each light type has there advantages and disadvantages.
HPS/MH = high Temps and electrical use but low cost to buy and bulbs ideally need replacing yearly.
Led = high outlay to buy and high Temps but low running costs.

Yeah stick to what you know works, lights have all their own pros and cons, there is no right or wrong light to use, though hps is predominantly for flowering or better for anyway , though dual spectrums work for both. Metal halide are great for veg but you'll have more temp issues to cater for then say CFL. Horses for courses etc.

I agree with the above that a 600 watt HID would work fine in a 4x4.

I would add that I know two growers that use both a HPS/MH light and LED just to get as many spectrums for their plants as possible and from the results I’ve seen as far as quality, it is definitely worth using both.
