Dude are you serious? How big a grow? 400W of light isn't going to cause any concern. A couple 1,000W lights might but then again they probably won't fly over without cause.

Well there are new scanners that can pick up even a 400w but i live in canada mate so i dont have to much to worrie about, but still there are ways to make it look like the room you are growing in is cool/cold not hot... i just dont know how to do this lol

Its funny I have seen information about search warrants obtained in Canada because a scan showed heat which indicated a grow operation and search warrants obtained because a scan showed no heat typical of insulating to hide a grow operation. So why would a Canadian worry about it?

A small grow op isn't going to get you caught so don't even worry about it.

Anti detection film will reduce the visual heat signal the police will get, also if you can air cooled reflectors are going to be good 1 for your plant 2 for not getting caught

just an idea... you could have lights on during the nighttime and hope that police dont fly in helocopters with scanners at night... I believe they do this during the daytime.

its harder for them to pick it up during daytime as the daylight will confuse the signal, they are much more likely to catch you at night i thought.

being in CA i suspect you have very insulated attic space..this will really help lower your heat signature, lights won't put out any more heat than a nice space heater anyway so in winter you've got a fair chance of not standing out.
in summer you'll have to work to get rid of that heat...fans and/or AC. no easy way out, you have to do something with all the heat energy, even the new films just keep it in your grow room and you still have to let it go into other rooms or cool it off.
if you think about it, they are really looking for very obvious stuff like a metal shed giving off high ambient temps in the dead of night, common sense stuff... i've never heard of thermal detection busting a home opp. before.

Yeah definatly more likely at night. The heat indexes on everything but the houses go black then there are different variance in temperature based on appliances/people in the house.I got to use different heat scanners in the military.
Your best bet is under or around a computer room and good ventilation. If you are small op growing they wont see enough to warrant a search. for all they know i have an extensive computer network in one room "hub" of my house.

i had to go to court the other day and while i was waiting for my turn i got to talkin with this old lady. She was a cancer patient and got her small personal op busted by a heat scanner on a helicopter. said she was using 400w hps for 2 plants. They brought 30 cop cars(swat included) and landed a helicopter in her yard to serve the search warrant. All for 2 fucking plants!! i dont mean to be a buzz kill but i feel i should spread the word

WTF! yo maybe you need to slow down on the smoking, I dont think they will get a warrant signed by a judge because you house is giving off heat, unless its alot of heat and they have reason to belive you are growing.

Serious though, listen to the dude; if you're gonna smoke, smoke! Gettin all worried and freaked out takes the fun and the whole relaxing thing out of it.
