How to seal rubbermaid tub???

Hi guys,

I have a bunch of big rubbermaid tubs that are the perfect size for my aero setup.

These are them:


The only problem is that they have holes at either end where the molded 'handles' are. Whenever the sprayers are on, water will run out, down the sides of the tub, and pool up around the bottom or drip onto the floor.

I've tried spray foam and that doesn't seem to work. I've tried taping over the inside of the 'handles' but water still finds a way to escape....

Does anyone have any ideas of how to fill these holes and make the tubs water tight?

gets some aquarium safe silicone sealant. that should do the trick.
how big are the holes?

Get some rubber gaskets at the Home Depot or Lowes.

They come in all shapes and sizes.

HOt Glue does the job forever. just when you are filling the hole ( that is kind of difficult or tricky) overfill it and in a few minutes it is ready to use.

Hot glue gun could be found in any dollar shop or ...

Garbage bags like someone else used, i forgot who. Chesk the thread for one of those systems and you'll see.

Just wanted to say I had a bad experience with this monster reservoir .It began to leak after a few weeks , it is huge and the thickness is not proper for volume. i should say that i kind of abused it , so it just may work 4 u .

for my first grow i used one of those and tried lots of ways to fix the problem and the one that worked best was a plastic skirt i made for around the inside of the lid.. i used one of those fire safety blankets cuase they are a really light plastic and hot glued it to the lid so it hung down 4 in or so into the tub and no more leaks

I spent a lot of time making my home made aero cloner 100% water tight, its tougher than people think! Get a roll of the thickest weather stripping you can find at Home Depot and then head down to the paint department and pick up "plumbers goop" that is the name brand, it is $3 and you get a good sized tube, trust me you're gonna need most of it! Next apply the weather stripping along the top of the lid and along the edge of the tub all the way around! When applying it, don't rely on the weather stripping adhesive alone, add a thin line of the plumbers goop on every bit you use! Next go around and use the plumbers goop to seal everything up real nice. Wait several hours for everything to dry and then plug it in and test... you are bound to have a leak or two. Shut if off and add more goop/weather strip. Repeat until you are 100% tight. It's a pain... but worth it.

So how well did this work for? I am debating on how to light proof my aero tough box....... ?

they sell water tight boxes why not just spend the excta couple bucks on a decent box for the build if your going to invest that much time and money
