How to propose legalization in my state?

Hey all, Congrats to everyone who voted to legalize marijuana for those states on the ballot this year.
I'm just curious, how do you propose legalization in your state? I've got some ideas on how to get started as far as support, enough people, an organization, etc. But how do you actually get it on the ballots to vote on? In Mississippi there were not enough votes last year to get recreational legalization on the ballot for this year. I think for our state to jump right into rec. legalization is never going to happen. I think we should try again with a new approach of getting medical mj legalized. I also think with better communication, spreading the word, getting voters involved and seeing the benefits, and getting local government backing us there may be a better chance. Coming up with a reasonable tax rate and addressing where funds will go that appeal to our government may help, I don't think the previous one was too appealing. I know nothing of politics, how to introduce this how to get it on a ballot when is there another election to vote on this, etc. Clueless here. Just curious if anyone has had an experience with this type of thing themselves, would love the feedback. Thanks
