I'm pretty sure you can do both. I've done that, and then even scrogged it. First, I started tying down around the edges of the pot, and then just for the sake of experimenting, I tried super cropping a couple of spots. So far, so good. It got really, really bushy, so then I made a screen for it and scrogged it. It's a first effort at this, but I'm really pleased. I have loads of buds, just loads of them.

It's also kind of fun to see what you can do, and there are lots of ways to do this.

Scrog maybe?

Good thread, thanks for the info. And no, I don't care where the info came from either.

Hey, so i gave this a shot and found that the one i experimented with (which was already about a foot tall) started to show signs of drying out on the top (the leaves were becoming pruned). does anyone know why this might have happened to the top part of the plant and not the bottom?

best instructions ive found.. good work. heres a question tho, i don't want to bother with all that tying but i was thinking about testing a simplified method on one of my plants.
what if when i transplanted to big pots i put the seedling off center towards the edge of the pot. and then at 3 or 4 leaf sets i make one long bend towards the opposite side of the pot so itd make a rainbow shape.
have you tried anything like that? i know the canopy wouldn't be as even as your method and not as many colas but it seems like a quick, easy way to increase production. think itd work?

hello! ive got a plant that i am trying LST with, but unlike the photos you all have posted, i bent this baby all the way down, its not even 2" off the soil...... how does it look? I made the mistake of topping it before i decided on LST so that got a little messed up.....

Please let me know how this looks, and if you have any suggestions for me. Ive got a thread running on this in cfl growing ( https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/173570-my-plant-into-bondage.html )

but Im not getting much response there.
I look forward to hearing what you all think or have to suggest (i am a notorious plant killer ) These photos are of the plant at the end of the fifth week (not including germination time)

right one other thing, im using these metal hook things to hold the branches down and apart. they are those "as seen on tv" magic hooks for hanging up to 200 POUNDS!!! on drywall - anyone seen that infommercial? well, not as good as the sham wow but good shit just the same :) DUAL USE TECHNOLOGY!

thanks!!!

Thanks for the post!
Really got me interested in LST.
Can you still get clippings/clones from a spiraling plant? would the curved leaves affect the cloning process at all?
any input would be great. Thanks

i got a great clone off my LST plant, which is looking NICE! i took it a little late, so i had to reconvince it that it wasnt in flower mode, which took a couple weeks. what i used to LST my plant is these funny hook things that are "As Seen On TV" and they are meant to go into drywall, and hold like a billion lbs.... then ended up being the perfect tool for the job. so, i would say if you cant get those (lol) use some sort of wire. they are called "hercules hooks" and i swear its so worth the money if you're looking for it to be easy and a no brainer.... oh right, its been i flowering for about 6 1/2 weeks. The branches don't have a lot of leaves, many died during tough times, and they really didnt grow in thick....
well, check my photos, tell me how you think its coming along :)

ohkay if i'm using zip ties won't the plant just grow nd pull the ties out... Becuase it can't be tied to the soil???
ya dont do that. cuz right after you pin it down the plant will use all its energy trying to straighten out before it gives up and starts growing vertically.

I tried to use hooks made of coat hangers stuck in the soil. The plant kept pulling up the hooks and never started growing like an lst plant. So i just had a retarded looking plant. But it was cool cuz it turned out to be my only male.... anyway use the string method

its so worth it.... not sure if you've seen my grow but its only in a 10" pot, and about 6" tall now, 7 weeks into flowering, and the buds are amazing.......
