How to Flush?

I’m still not sure about the whole idea of flushing. I start my flush at around 2 weeks before harvest and stop feeding any nutes just water.

Is this the right way? As I heard people still giving nutes just in lower doses, or flushing earlier/later

I always heard that week or two before harvest to use just water the plants with no nutes, I guess that might not be the case lol

Thanks for all the help

To answer your question and not trying to push you in either direction. Some ppl add loads of water 2 weeks before. Others lower nutes for those weeks to allow the plant to use up stored nutrients in leaves. I personally take my plants to about finish and start leaching with pure water. On a 10wk strain I give water the last few waterings. Maybe a week prior.

In the end just do what u “feel”.. There’ll always be people who swear by doing it and those who swear by not doing it. Personally I don’t and my weed smokes, smells, tastes beautiful.
My logic is why would u essentially “starve” your girls at a point so pivotal in the whole process? Again that’s only my opinion.

Good luck either way u go!

That’s my exact thought. I’ll give it a try next grow where I don’t flush see how that works out.

Thanks

Some people I know, instead of flushing, put a 0/0/50 flowering nutrient to get the last little "boom" they can get out of the plant.

Leaching

Definition - What does leaching mean?

The term leaching is also used when a farmer opts to irrigate a small field with large quantities of water to remove salt build up in the soil. When done on a smaller scale by indoor farmers, this can be called flushing, flushing your plants, or flushing the grow medium.

https://www.maximumyield.com/definition/548/leaching

So “flushing” is still a term that is used and accepted in a botanical sense. Further reading brings me to the conclusion that leaching is the term used when ur removing the build up of salts, and flushing more commonly used for when you begin to give water only for an amount of time before harvest. So in other words “flushing” is a viable term in the context the op has used it.

I’ve noticed u have issues with people using the term flushing instead leaching, but what about the fact that near everyone calls the white hairs of a flowering plant “pistils”? When they are in fact “stigmas”, (correct plural - stigmata). Stigmata grow out of the pistil.
If u wanna be a nazi for correct terminology that’d be the one to jump on.:leaf:;-)

I live in a rural area of a rural state...flushing is not used in agriculture despite what your free maximum yield magazine that is just one advert after another says. Lets face it its not the best publication...
yes, Leaching is leaching...watering is watering (irrigating) and fertilizing is fertilizing.

But your more than welcome to pop down to a local bar and ask the farmers (who these days are extremely well educated with degree in agriculture unlike their parent's) how long they flush their crops for.....I'll even drive.

The stoner term flushing has three?? Meanings.. Which means its a confusing term to start with. See the post above urs and the one above that for proof of the third one. So why use it when horticulture already has terms for those 3 things?
Its time this old stoner word went away. You being a younger generation of grower who likes correct terms would of agreed with me I would of thought.
