thanks for that vo..i do have another one (and im sure tons more) when starting with a clone how far should the light (1000w) be from the top of the clone?? i assume its not the same as when veg or flower. My ballast is dimeable as well so do you think 1000w is to much? I could turn it down if so.
You could leave it a few feet away, or turn it down.

1/2 an inch to an inch below the rockwool at first, then you lower it from there
How do the roots that are sticking out the bottom of the rockwool drink water if its an inch below them?

I've tried the inch thing and they got too dry and died. I tried putting them this recent time just above the water level so i could still see the water bubbling like you showed in the video and now they're too wet. I read recently that growstones wick a lot more than hydroton, maybe thats it?

If the rockwool is too dry either raise the water level or top feed manually until you have enough roots. If the rockwool is wet, lower your water level.

1/2 an inch or an inch will work because of the air pump/stone forcing water up.

Great thread. VO, you keep talking about freezing water bottles to cool things off. Why are you doing this, where is the heat coming from? I'm confused because with dwc I thought that there are no pumps in the water, just air stones.

Well my room temp is generally 75*F + up to 85 and in the summer 90, so the heat in the closet air is pumped into the reservoir, heating up the water over time which decreases the oxygen level in your water.

So are you actually using a res or do you mean to say the water at the bottom of each bucket? Do you always have this issue or only in the summer?
Yeah in a 3.5 or 5 gal bucket DWC, the bucket is the rez, and I have the issue all the time because in the coldest parts of winter I like my house to be 70*F.

Sweet thread man! About 12 years ago I was doing airoponics on clones. It worked pretty good Im amazed how far its come. Ive been growing in soil for a while now and I just picked up some bubble buckets netpots and hydroton. just put everything together waiting for clones to root. I have a question. How much bubbles should I have? they are popping onto the hydroton and I think its working. Ive got two buckets hooked up one 4 inch round stone in each.

If the water 'bounces' a couple inches up, it's enough water. You'll see drops get that high up at least, if not then you need a stronger air pump.

Hey VO. Is it too soon to put the RW cube in a bucket when only 1 root is sticking out the bottom? And is top feeding watering the hydroton or the RW?

Right now im taking 2 cups a day from the buckets in order to get a good level, but 2 of my plants roots dont seem like they want to go into the growstones and was wondering if its because they have enough water already there and they dont need to find more? And is this bad to peek at what the roots are doing periodically?

I'm reading about ph swings, and for a while I was doing it all wrong starting at 5.8 and dropping it to 5.8 when it got to 6.0 after a day or two. Now that i'm dropping to 5.5 its only rising .1 a day. Is 3 days too long of a timeframe for P & MG to be unavailable and then 2 days for calcium and 4 for manganese on a 5.5 to 6.0 swing? I'm using ionic nutes and h2o2 7ml/gal, but will soon switch to heisenbergs sauce.

yeah dont move the rockwool once it's in the bucket, period. top feed the rockwool if necessary

Back again with a couple of questions for you VO...Instead of starting with clones my buddy gave me two healthy (platinum kush according to him) plants 21" tall in hydroton from his ebb/flow garden. I transferred them into my bubble bucket net pots. The roots had created a ball (little smaller than a bowling ball) in the hydroton to i just set it in the net pot as is not to disturb root system. Because the roots were not through the net pot the put the water level 1" into the net pot (Should i have put it a little below the net pot?). PH/PPM are at recomended levels. The water is at 72F. Room temp 75F-80F. Fan on low moving air around and slightly blowing on plants. Humidity 40%-50%. 1000w light about 18" above tops. Air stones with lots of bubbles. After a couple hours the leaves seem to droop but not burned or curling. Do you think the could be in shock from transfer into a different system or overwatering? Do you think he is correct to say go into flowering?
