How suspicious would...

it be to build a 12x14 greenhouse in a privacy fenced backyard? I've been contemplating building one, but I know how neighbors can be. Nosy and always interested in why some people do what they do. I would grow some container plants and furnish my yard with lots of flowers and growth to camouflage my real intent. Basically make it seem like I'm a real green thumb and plants are my hobby. Now keep in mind that we are on a MJ growing board and I assume the most of us wouldn't think twice about it besides that it would be a killer place to grow, lol. But non growers or people who care nothing about gardening or flowers may see it otherwise. Agree or disagree? Opinions? Suggestion?

hell, ive got some neighbors with something similar. they have 2 greenhouses in fact. but they dont look suspicious at all. depends on what YOU look like while doing it.

but to follow that up on the legitimacy note, they do have several other types of flowers in their yard. it helps. theyre probably not growing mj, but who knows?

ok its like this. if you look shady, people will be suspicious. but if you keep things looking on the up and up, no one will think twice. dont be nervous when you go out there, dont look like a pothead either, and no one will even think about it.

only you know ur neighbours....it would be a measured risk but possibly an acceptable one. I almost set one up last summer, knew I was moving so didn't. It would be a reasonable risk from my perspective....but I don't live in your neighbourhood onor do I know your neighbours.

Yeah, it wouldn't be in my current house...my neighbor lady is in the business. She's the type that will and has cut the grass if I can't get to it on time or when she thinks it needs to be done. It will be a house that I am buying and hopefully we only have neighbors a mile or so on either side or more. I want a few acre spread right outside of town...had to compromise with the wife on that one. We are both city folk, but I am fed up with big cities.

I will probably build something like this... how to build a cheap and easy greenhouse

I will mod it as follows...

Clear 6mil UV stabilized plastic sheeting on the outside. Black&white polyethylene around the inside lower half and front/back areas for a little more security. Of course the white will be facing in so that the sun from the top will relect to the plants.

Frame the back door section with an opening for an exhaust fan with temp sensor.

Make the front entrance a solid door with a lock.

I would just buy one, but I like the DIY part, plus I don't feel like dropping a couple thousand on one.

In other words, if you have a greenhouse and your yard looks like shit, people will wonder WTF you need a greenhouse for.

EXACTLY!!!! I have known a lot of people who have green houses and I have never once even thought that they may have been growing. Maybe they were.:o

Just carry on your business like you would a regular gardener. Just hope that they don't want to visit your greenhouse.

Also you probably shouldn't smoke dope in or near your greenhouse 'cause that would look REAL suspicious then. :-|:-?

I'd do it. In fact you have me thinking about one for myself. Nice idea.

I was doing some researching tonight and found out that most of these poly covers block UV light which makes marijuana more potent. So the thing is, go with plain poly that is non UV stabilized and have to replace it probably once every 1-2 seasons or sacrifice potency. Hmmmm. I think what I'll do is build a square one with white UV stabilized poly and have a slight pitched non stabilized clear poly top. That way the plants get direct sunlight when the sun is above and indirect light when it's not. Sound like a good plan anyone? Btw, if you use the white poly, it is translucent so it still gets light no matter what.

Id also maybe suggest growing more then pot in it, so if anyone ask you can say you grow tomatoes or such.

Yeah, some tomato plants in front so if anyone ever opened it up they would see them first.
