Let's say you started an outdoor grow in may. The plants are in 5 gallon buckets. If they plant's roots get crowded, will this affect the overall growth of the plant? And if so, by how much?

First of all, are you talking a REAL 5 gallons? because a lot of times when you go to buy pots they call the pot a 1 gallon, 3 gallon etc and so forth ,but in actuality it's about 1/2 a gallon or significantly smaller than what they call it.

And alot of the pot size depends on the size of hte plant. if you're growing with genetics that only go so far as 4ft, you can get away with a smaller root base.

But in short, i usually like to go about 70 L, which is about 18G and i've never had a problem with 8ft girls. So you should be able to get away with 12G depending on yoru plant size, but i wouldnt want to work with a 5 gallon pot. I would bet that you will see rout bounding and stunted growth. pm me if you need anything else.

So let's say the plants have been outdoors for about 2 months now. they are about 2 and a half feet tall. U think that 5 gallons isnt enough? So the only solution is to transplant them into a bigger pot? But when they get to be around 2 and a half feet tall, are you taking a big chance by trying to transfer them into a different pot? And so you are saying that the overall yield for the plants will be affected by not having enough growing space?

Thanks for the advice!

Well the general idea is to make the transplant when they're small enough to still be thrown around. U are not taking a "big" risk by moving them now, but just be careful. if you dont care about the pot they're in now, cut it open and move em in to something bigger. And yea if the roots are bound you're going to have stunted growth and an affected yield.
