How long you think we got?

Other countries have fared worse than we have as far as crises go, and still managed to pull through ok. At least our system of government is robust enough that we can reorganize without a complete revolution. We've weathered the Great Depression, two world wars, and the Cold War. Don't count us out yet.

Still, there's a good chance we'll end up like much of Europe. Still a force to be reckoned with but no longer the world dominating powers like in the past.

The only time hope is validated is when it is for entertainment purposes. And I do win. Just not as often as I lose, it seems.

Good question, it will be a slow death.

The bailouts really started with the train system, which over taxation caused in my opinion, then the airline industry and automobile industry. Then Savings and Loans, and now the Banking industry. Some say its deregulation that caused it, some say not. Some regulation is required, in my opinion the deregulation in the oil futures was a major cause of oil skyrocketing. But over regulation is just as bad. It stagnates the markets.

But most people do vote for politicians with the 'whats in it for me' attitude. Kennedy said 'ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country', its just a slogan tho. (see special interest groups). Politicians that have vested interests are overseeing for profit entities is probably not a good idea.

So we are sliding deeper and deeper into a form of socialism. And in every form of govt devised be man, whether it be socialism or democracy and everything in between, there is always an elite class and a worker class. There is just more of a chance of middle class in a representative style of govt. So as long as people THINK they have it good the govt remains.

So the decline and fall of America is not inevitable but it takes constant vigilance and interaction by the masses to keep them in line.

Apathy will be the death nail to freedom.

Of course this is just my humble opinion.

Bingo.. unfortunately it seems instead of being vigilant and keeping an eye on things, people are being apathetic and silently going along with all of it..

A check is only good for 1 year after it is written. After that the bank can refuse to honor it.

Oh, your original post also misrepresents the average county that votes Democrat as being a poor ghetto who gets benefits from all the people in the counties that vote Republican. That's BS though, the average income in Democrat-leaning counties is like double what it is in the Republican ones.

Hmmmm.... you mean like LA County or Dade county? Metropolitan areas tend to vote Democrat, and sometimes really really rich people live within these countys. That has to help the per capita income levels, even tho they vote democratic. And if all the rich people voted one way and poorer people vote another, it would be quite the imbalence. The metropolitan areas also have a larger per capita of unemployed or poorer families.

I tried to find a better source of information and found this:

Red State, Blue State, Rich State, Poor State

The 1896 red state/blue state map is interesting. It's like a complete reversal of the 2000 one. Anyway, the main thing I learned was that it's a lot more complicated than rich vs. poor. Black people vote Democrat overwhelmingly, religious people are more likely to vote Republican, but poor religious people are less likely than rich religious people to vote Republican. It's all very complicated.
