How long do you hang before trimming?

What is a good rule of thumb? Does it matter? I was told you can still get more crystals out of the fan leaves so its good to hang with everything on then trim later, but how much later?

Help is appreciatedx!:leaf:

i trim as soon as they get chopped, it seems a lot easier and the bud comes out looking better. i'm not sure if you loose or gain quality but the ease is worth any lose if there is any.

hmmm, I respect that. I appreciate the help. Looking for a few more answers before I decide, maybe come home tonight, drink a few beers and trim them up.... Will have to see if anyone else thinks there is anything left after chopping.

Thanks agian!

Trim as soon as chop, can't see any logical reason not to (don't buy into these myths of getting extra crystals by doing strange things to the plant to increase the strength). Left to hang and dry just makes it harder to trim.

lol, i pre-trim by loosing all the fan leaves, trimming most of the branching and leave the tight leaves on as I also heard that the plant will continue to use the food in the leaves to finish as much resin producing as possible. After 3-4 days i trim and save the bud cuttings for butter. I also take the plant before cutting and put it in an extra closet and leave it with no more water or light for 3 days. This extra shock does produce more resin or at least it sure seems like it.. ( dont cover with a plastic bag to block light, mold).

I do the same. I put all my attention into growing healthy plants, I don't bother with gimmicks.

It is significantly easier to manicure the buds while the leaf stems are still fully turgid (filled with water). When they're dry(ing) they're much more of a pain to trim.

Trimming limp buds is like trying to fuck with a limp dick.

Well today I did things a little different from what i'm reading. I left the plant in the dark for 11 hours then pulled it out and while she was still standing I just bent a limb towards me and sniped the leafs and trimmed the buds, rotated until finished then cut her down at base and hung her upside down in-tacked. I should mention she was Williams 60 Day Wonder, a auto. A crappie auto strain. Out of 6 seeds, only one popped.

I practice a couple of ways depending on what I am doing with it. There are a couple of cancer patients which I grow for, not legal here and trim theirs when I harvest and hang to dry. Trimming is easier when still fresh no doubt, but for what I keep for myself I usually just take the fan leaves off when I cut and trim when dry.
Drying in this manner takes longer and depending on your setup can encourage mold in your buds. To me the slower I can dry the better I like it. There are always lots different views on this that range from the silly to science behind it. I suggest when you have the time and space you try several methods and see which one suits your taste and your time schedule. Always a good idea in growing plants to try new things so that your knowledge is always expanding and it helps to keep your mind open to new ideas in general.
Good Luck and Enjoy

From my few grows I have under my belt now, and the experiences I've had playing around with different methods of drying, trimming, and curing, I would have to agree its going to be subjective to each person, and there will be subtle differences with most methods.

Hands down I agree, it is super easy to do the final trim when cutting down plants and hanging them up, the bud comes out looking the nicest, and puts out a good quality smoke due to less leaf, which usually means it will be smoother.

The advantages with the different methods of leaving sugarleaf and/or fan leafs during drying / curing impart their own uniqueness to the process as well IMO. Remember the dry is about managing water content, and the cure is about fermentation happening, breaking down sugars and chlorophyll (bad taste), and converterting all sorts of things from one form to the other. Even though it is no longer connected to roots, there are metabolic processes happening, and things being transported from the leaves to the buds, and within the buds. Jar curing takes advantage of the same effect. Another thing of note, is that leaving some leaf on, also to a degree protects the buds themself from a good deal of abuse. When I have seeded buds from breedings i've done, I usually store it in the dried buds with the fan leafs wrapped around them, while drying out for long term storage.

But again, for killer looking buds, and ease of trim, removing it all at harvest is surely the best way from my experience.

I have trimmed after the drying, but it seems easier to do it right after chopping. Only reason I waited till after drying the one time was because I didn't really have time to do it for a couple days.

thats how i do it exactly ^^^^

some say to leave the leaves on so the hang down and protect the trichs, but i find it so much easier to trim before hanging.

I trim partly while the plant is still in it's pot, then cut and take each stem and detail it as I turn it round until it's beautiful
