how long are spore prints Viable for?

Just curious as to how long Mushroom spore prints are viable for? I was helping a buddy move who use to sell spore prints are o head shops locally, and acquired an index box of vacumsealed spore prints (200 prints)

They have been stored in a cool, dark & Dry space for a while now. I've had the idea of setting up a small personal mushroom grow and was wondering how long the shelf life of stored mushroom prints was.

Technically, 100s of years.

In reality, i have gotten results from about 5.

Spores will gradually dehydrate unevenly. So a thousand spores may lose ten percent a year. (For instance). Spores will not germinate when they are dehydrated, but you have a shot at rehydration with immersion in water or immersion in water under preassure.

Thanks guys. Just have all these spore prints(hundreds) that have been in storage. And as of late have an itch to get a small personal aquarium tank fruiting. Just llurking around trying to decide which method would be best for a first time grower of Shrooms. Just one of those things we use to do as kids and dont really see around any more.

You would be best served to work with agar if you have old prints.

It isnt that hard.
