I trim the fan leaves and larger leaves before drying. Then before jarring for the cure I do the fine manicuring. It's easier to trim the majority of leaf material while it's still sticking out straight from the bud. After it wilts, covers the bud and dries it's much harder to trim

I chop off any leaves with out crystals right as I harvest, then hang up the branches to dry, manicure, then put them in jars. I feel like that method gets me the best hash out of my trim.

I trim wet, then place the buds on screens for a few days to dry. Then I go over them again to catch any crows feet that were missed first time around, then into jars or turkey bags to start the curing process.

I don't know how u guys trim when fresh. Seems like it would be too wet and just bend the leaves.

I trim big fans off when fresh but wait till outside leaves are nice and crispy and stems almost wanna snap untill I start trimming, makes it much easier.

And yeah trimming is a pain in the ass. I spend almost a week straight trimming last harvest with 2 people helping. Fuck that was lots of work.

When I first harvest and do the major trim, it's almost like I'm shaping a shrub...buds in this case. Kinda neat!

Me too. Wet seems easier. But man....I see these 125 buck a quarter baggies of these SUPER trimmed Cali weed! My friend brought me some TRAINWRECK he paid a shitload for....and I smoked it and it was no better than ANY of my weed. But it damn sure LOOKED better! I mean.....jeeeeze! Im guessing the big Cali growers hire a bunch of Mexicans guys to trim their shit for 2 bucks an hour or something? HOW do they get those perfectly trimmed buds? How much TIME does anybody have for those super trims?

I gotta say...my "baggy appeal" is a notch or two below that. It hurts my feelings! I mean....anybody who smokes my weed KNOWS it's CRIPS. But the look....is less perfect than those pricey Cali bags.
Plus, hey, Ive smoked those "sugar leaves", LOL....and looked at them under the 'scope, all covered with trichs. They're too GOOD to NOT smoke, IMO. But the TireKickers complain they aint "pretty".

Do you guys spend hours trimming to perfection? Maybe Im just a lazy slob..... I pinch off the fans and the long sugar leaves, but the small ones I leave on. And smoke the shit out of.

I dunno. I just feel like there are some "weed connoseuers" kinda like wine conneseures who get hung up on the color and "nose" of the wine. I dunno. Seems to me, the poing of smoking weed is the getting high, not the look of the buds.

For instance, my Black Widow aint gorgeous in the baggie. Nor does it have a great taste or smell. But it WILL crucify ya with three tokes.

So, Im kinda confused. I mean, sure IDEALLY, my weed would taste great, smell great AND cripple ya. But IF I have to pick ONE, I'll go for the Cripple Ya. Am I nuts?

Seems like the Younger Heads are all about the taste and smell....and less about potency. Is it just me? Im an Olde Farte and to me, IF weed happens to ALSO taste good or smell good, that's the icing on the cake. But I am totally about potency. Well, not "totally", but BIG-ly. I guess I mean, IF the strain kicks ass, Im less concerned about the niceties of flavor and aroma. I wouldnt trade a great tasing 3 for an ass kicking 5.

Am I, like....just completely out of date? I mean....HOW important IS taste and smell to YOU?

I trim when wet else it's just a pain.

What has trimming cannabis got to do with Cali?

Oh man....them Cali buds are so frickin CLEAN and perfect they look like they came off an assembly line. Seriously. But I have to think they GOTTA have a team of 100 Mexican dudes willing to trim with manicure scissors for 2 bucks an hour or something. IF I took the time to trim and shape every bud the way they do, it would take me 16 hours per plant. I aint lyin! That bag of TRAINWRECK my friend showed me looked like it had been gone over with goddam tweezers under a microscope. I cant help but wonder....DOES the perfect trim really equal an extra 100 bucks an oz? It sure doesnt to me. Im happy to smoke some sugar leaves dripping with trichs along with my bud.

Then again, Im happy to find a working TV or perfectly good couch on the sidewalk waiting for the garbage man, too, LOL. Some guys say, "Look at this great leather couch I just paid a grand for!" Im a LOT happier to say, "Look at this great leather couch I found on the sidewalk! I rubbed it down with NEETfoot oil and it looks brand new!"

Please dont think Im cheap. Im not. Im just saying, IF the SAME weed is for sale at 300 an oz OR 400, and the only diff is the trim....well, gimmee the 300. I'll deal.

alright guys im not from cali im from michigan i havent been doing this shit for 20 years only 3. I have grown some bud im really proud of i have grown some shit i blamed on another dude and said "for the price,Man" trim wise i prefer to knock out as much as possible before putting it on the line so. this has lead me to a bit of fan leaf pulling during the last weeks when im flushing and like "ohh man i wanna wax these bitches" i got patients who have needs and bills so i wait the extra five days after i think there ready to go and pull them fan leafs while i have time to get to them (indoor, cause out door yeah right covered) i separate my trim so i have only the fine manicured goodness to make honey oil with fan leafs get kicked with stems i dont mind the drying rack and while i trim i manicure everything out as nice as i can for as long as possible (usually about 16 hours the first day) i dont cut down more than i can trim if there is little shit my big hands dont wanna deal with i will hang it with the whole rest of the plant like all the popcorns those will be the wifes or the stuff i will pay a buddy to go through or the wife will to me there grade be based on size and location (indoors, outside not always true) anyways the difference in cali bud that i get my hands on is in quality and cure alot of times we are getting it because cali guys have been sitting on it local bud goes places quick aint no one sitting on shit to cure for the extra 30 day. also density i use bud hardener (gravity) but just like most people i didnt start out with 10 lights and 40 plants it was like 1 then 2 then 4 and as much shit as you could throw under them cause (cause thats gotta yield great) so the experienced guys don't have a team of guys trimming there shit they got a collective of dudes and they put the work in like the job that it is they use the same strains untill they know them to perfection they use more lights less plants and the average shit thats in Cali and Colorado and here and Amsterdam ISNT WORTH IMPORTING so no one says oh hey i got this average ass bag airmailed from my dude in mexico sweet eh? or wow those beasters were dank. also i would like to come out and help trim anyone that needs it i am willing to plan my sfbay getaway around it

If you want to come out here and trim, you're gonna have to learn to get those nugs a little tighter than the one in your avatar.

im from michiigan as well and i was wondering why all my patients are asking for me to trim like cali does, and all i can think of is how much chemical nutes and hardeners they must use out there... like someone already mentioned gravity...

This minus the turkey bags. :) I will be using them this year though. :)

Since most of my product goes to the local clubs I have to take my time and trim them good. Very time consuming but rewarding at the end. Depends on the strain also, it takes me twice as long to trim the same amount of purple erkle compared to the sourd diesel. That erkles super leafy.
