alright its my first indoor grow and im thinking i really wanna keep doing this, make a more permanent set up and try to really get some weight growing. but my biggest problem at the moment is that i have a big ass extentsion cord going from the wall outlet three feet from the closet under the closet doors. super obvious. for the past two months ive had a dog food bag (well several) and a laundry basket on top of the cord so you can't really see it, i try and keep it well hidden but its def. not a permanent solution. i do have flor. light bars in the top of my closet but they are connected to these thick white wires that go into the wall, no outlet. i really can't see any solution to this problem? and yes i know NOTHING about electrical crap. thats guy stuff ;)

tap into the power for the light bars. i'd turn the breaker off, unwire the bar lights and wire-in some type of temp outlet box.

A GIRL!! WOWOW!!
*boner*

Sorry, my teenage side takes over some times :)
Do what FFD said
If you can see the ballast,g et a friend who knows how to solder or learn to solder and unsolder the wire connected to the ballasts, remember, always safety first!

throw George Bush in there and tell him there's oil,,hahahahaha:hump:

Keep on Growin

HoLE

If your lucky, you will have an outlet that backs up to the inside of your closet. If you do, get someone that knows how to hook up an outlet for you.
I happened to have had that, I cut a hole inside the closet next to the outlet on the outside, jumped the wires from one box to the new one. Now I have an outlet inside the closet. Or, you could possibly pull a wire down from the attic.

Simplets and quick solution is turn the breaker off remove the 4 screw to the light fixture it drops donw will be 3 wires most likely 1 white 1 black 1 green.Buy a $1 wall outlet from homedepot or lowes.Look for the 1 with a ground screw which will be a green screw.Go home put the white wire on 1 side top screw the black wire on the opposite side top screw. The green wire to the green screw. Now for extra saftery wrap black electrical tape around the sides where the screws are go all the wall around it 6-8 times and your now have a outlet inside the closet. Take about 5 minutes and 1 phillips screw driver cost $1-$4 dollars

Hey, also if you have a light in your closet already you can purchase one of those light socket extensions that stick into your existing light socket, provide a couple electrical outlets, then another socket to stick the same light back in. Girls can screw in light bulbs right??

They are in the light isles in places like Home Depot and cost about $5. The above explanation confused me when I re-read it hah..

It goes, existing light socket, extension piece with more electrical outlets, then light bulb. Sweet.

this is what i think he is talking about .. there is a string to pull to still turn on and off the light itself.. but the two extra outlets stay live always even when light is off..

good luck

this sounds pretty simple thanks!! im going to try it, and maybe rent the "electrical wiring for dummies" book. lol oh and no i don't have any light sockets that would have made life a bit easier. and hole i love ur anwer!
thanks guys i really appreciate your manly advice ;)

Yes that socket plug would be great exc ept if you read the post its a hardwire littel florescent light in there not a bulb socket so that light a 2 foot shop light hardwired into the closet

ah i try not to limit myself, there are alot of guy things i can do, like changing a tire, driving a tractor, jump starting, oh and i worked a bunch of HARD LABOR jobs in my lifetime (like morning shift at a dairy farm). but when it comes to electric, plumbing, construction etc im so clueless. im totally learning tho, thanks to good old mj! who says pot makes u lazy n not wanting to learn, growing has me learning new shit everyday. i went to HD and got the outlet. not sure about the whole circuit breaker thing (thats the metal box with all the switchs inside right?) but im readin up on this and i WILL get this done myself. they guy at HD was like "are u sure you can install this yourself you know you can really mess up blah blah blah" whatever. green wire to green screw, white wire to silver screws and black wire to copper screws, can't be too hard. just installed a new electric fence to keep the evil NJ black bears from killing my goats, i can do this. well thanks to everyones help anyway! ill let u know the end result later :)

go to your breaker box. the thing with all the switches. turn the closet light ON. then one-by-one turn the breakers OFF until you find the one that turns off the light. keep it off while you wire the outlet. it is as easy as screw colors. sounds like you got it.:blsmoke:

Aloha Bicher-Babe!

Just flip the one main breaker to the house while you're wiring (BIG switch at the top or side of the breaker box), then you don't have to worry about zapping yourself at all. Might take you a while to reset all your clocks afterwards but it's a bit more peace of mind for us inexperienced electricians.

I had to do the same thing, I ran an extra outlet from a light switch on the other side of the wall of my grow closet.

You can do it.

Hopefully you tapped into the hot side the first time. Otherwise you probably would have found out that your light switch would have to be on to power your outlet. :)

Of course. I rewired the whole loft during renos. First time doing electrical and it turned out really well. Easier than I had expected it to be.

wow so thanks to you guys, i did it, got power in my closet now, all by myself. im pretty proud of my little electrical job lol. gives me some confidence now that im planning on building my own grow box. i need to lightproof and also set up a veg chamber so im thinking a plywood box as big as i can fit in my closet. anyway thats another thread. the only problem i have is that the power is only on when the light switch is turned on. so in order to turn off the other closet light that i didnt disconnect, i have to cut power to everything, pumps fans all that. so i took the bulb out of the light bar and have the power turned to on now so that at 7am the lights will come on. but it sucks to not have a closet light at all now. is there anyway to control them seperatly or am i just stuck w/ no light in my closet? my closet is huge, i have the left side full of clothes (thats the side where i took the lightbulb out) and one side is for growing (thats where i cut the wires and installed the outlet) id like to be able to turn my left side closet light on and off without affecting the other side, just dunno if thats posible?
