How do i know when to change light schedual

Hey,

This is my first grow and its small and in my room. I started from a seed and now i have a little seedling. Its on 24 hour light right now but how do i know when i should change the light schedule to 18/6. EDIT:I planted the seed 10 days ago if it makes any difference
 
an inch bigger then a normal sized lighter, so would that be like twice the size of a lighter lol ? if switch to 16/8 18/6 just after 2 weeks in
 
sounds very streched bud what sort of light r u using? it shouldnt be that tall if its only a seedling!!
 
agreed, that does seme a bit lanky. and if there han't been any dark periods to encourage stretching/growing tall, then it seems even more oh nose maybe

as said, change the lights now, i tend to start straight into 18/6, seeds in the wild certainly don't get or need a 24/0 light cycle
 
Thats what i was thinking... it is pretty lanky and the stock is pretty thin. Is there any way to get it to thicken up?

yup, get a fan gently blowing on it. seeing as it's stretched a bit, or so we assume, already, it would be good to make sure the seedling is supported with a cocktail stick etc, just in case the fan should blow it clean over, not sure how thin is thin, but better safe than sorry :)
 
bury the stalk up to an inch below the first leaves, get fan on, lower lights. i had same problem bout 4 weeks ago and was told to do this . all six plants between 14 and 18 inches and lookin good. i changed to veggin after two weeks and thats me almost 5 weeks into it. little bit of reppotting/ rehousing stress slowed them for a bit. gaunna start flowering on 1st dec. like tip top said get a couple of cocktail sticks as support, or the plastic outside of ballpoint pens. dats wot i did mate.
 
ya the fan is good bud, but unless you get a stronger light it will keep on stretching what light r u using? and how close is it?
 
Place a fan near it..Let it get a good workout trying to stand on its own..Cut lights down now...Hopefully you can avoiding having to stake up this early if at all..
 
just looked at your pics, ya man thats really stretched first thing to do is full that cup to the top with soil, and if you have it put some cloning gel/powder on the stem that your going to fill in!! but get back to me about what lights you have bro.

what r u on about (cut the lights down??) do u mean give it less light? you would be mad to do such a thing you need as much light as posable!! thats what will thicken up the stem and stop it from trying to grow any higher!! do u see those 2 little leaves at the top? well they havent opened up yet because it still dosent have enough light.
 
I need a new light, I just threw in a light i had in my room thinking it would be enough but apparently not its only 25 watts now that i checked it lol.
