Hey my plants arent strong enough to hold up theyr buds on theyr own. Right now im using some bamboo sticks to help them out and its working fine i guess. I realize its most likely too late to fix this problem being that im about 3 weeks from harvest, but i was curious as to what i can do on my next grow to strengthen up the roots and stems so i dont have this problem again.

Be happy that you have this problem...and no, there's not much that can be done with the plant. Its because our plants have been bred to produce larger buds than the structure of the plant can tolerate naturally. Stake them, tie them, scrog them, whatever, just be happy they are too heavy!! always a good sign.

theres a product called 'yo-yo's' that is a little spring loaded thingy with sum heavy duty nylon thread and a hook at the end. you fix it to ur ceiling and just pull the hook down to it catches the bud/stalk. dead cheap and simple.

Not a bad idea, are you talking about the light hangers?

on future grows try putting a low powered fan blowing a gentle wind at them starting around the first or second set of true leaves. the wind shakes the stems a little and strengthens them up. a longer veg will also help achieve this if you have the time and space.

A good way to strengthen your plants is to use a circulating fan during veg period. You can also bend your plants to encourage them to grow stronger.

do you use a silica supplement? higromite or dyno rok II both kick major ass. there very easy to use, just mix it in your soil, or if you grow hydro mix em with your clay pebbles. silica is one of the most underused products out there for plants. it will strengthen the cell walls in your girls. in addition to having sturdier plants, you will have less problems with pests and mold.

Nitrogen (N) is primary to plant growth. Plants convert nitrogen to make proteins essential to new cell growth. Nitrogen is mainly responsible for leaf and stem growth as well as overall size and vigor

Good info guys! I didnt realize that it was a good thing. I have had a fan blowing on my plants for just this reason since i started to veg them. Thats a real good idea hanging ropes from the ceiling, im deffinently gonna try that next time because the steaks dont sit very well in the hydroton.

always have a fan on at least whilst ur lights are on all the way thru your grow. as well as ecouraging stem sturdiness, it helps circuate the heat and reduces the chance of bug and mould problems. i position a moveable clip fan where it whill blow between the top of canopy and the light to reduce the chance of bulb burn, i also have an osciillating fan at the other end blowing against it, this mixes the air up and causes sort of cross winds that reduces the chances of your plants all leaning over away from only 1 fan. my stems at start of flower are all ways about as thick as my index finger and by the end of flower about as thick as my thumb.

good ferts and extremely strong lighting make good strong plants. With the lighting being the most important factor.
