fire-ants are aphid farmers. I would check under the leaves and on the stalks for aphids. They collect aphid nectar for food. Also, fire-ants are attracted to oil and sugar. Keep both away from your grow if you have a fire-ant issue.

i had black ants, to my experiences black ants are more forgiven than red ants.

@0011STEALTH blend some garlic and hot pepper and spray them with it- that way yu keep ANTS away my fellow, even when the herb is changing its original smell it is cheesy and I use panamanian pepper which is really spicy and it ends up in a Jamaican smell excellent

in some conditions fire ants will chew through your stalk at the base, they do it in a matter of days too. i had a five foot tall haze topple over and die on me about four years back, dont get me started on termites that suppossedly "dont eat plants" either
to solve the problem then i took a sort of radical solution. i elevated my five gallon pots on a metal wire stand that was then placed into a large pan filled with bleach water, this cut off there route and they killed themselves in the water.

sometimes ants figure the loose soil at the base of the plant is a good place to start digging, they use the Roots & stalk as lets say "guides" they dig along them and will cause your plant to have issues beginning under the soil

yes but aphids eat your plant. ants will raise aphids and place them on your plant. They are very good farmers

Actually they take care of the aphids and even move them to other plants and collect the nectar from glands where the aphids excrete waste. Fire ants are butt lickers.

They aren't controled by the queen, I don't think, but killing her means no new baby ants and they all die. The other ants eat this stuff too, it's just that the queen gets first dibs.
The stuff works great. You only need about 1tbl sprinkled around the mound and the jug I bought has lasted for over 3 years.
