I had 6, 45w cfl's and it worked great for veg but after flowering for 6 months with close to no buds I tossed em...and got a HPS....other than veg I don't understand why people would waste their time with CFL's when you spent about as much as a cheap 400w HPS on cfl's and supplies...though I must say I have seen some great results...I wonder what I did wrong? this time my shit looks great.

6 months? Wasn't the CFL's.

Sounds like a light leak or the grower.

How is it that I have grown 2 oz plants plenty of times with CFL's? And I'm not the only one.

Yeah an HID light is obviously better but CFL's will work if you know what you are doing.

See riddleme's post. Under that will have a few links. One of them is advice for new people. Pretty straight forward. By the way some people dont really like you posting your questions in their threads. If you have questions it may be easier if you post your own thread and then you can ask all you like. You will still get help. Also only refer to your CFL's in their actual wattage. Equivalent is meaningless.

hey big nice stuff,.I am having problems!!!! after i germinated the seeds a place the taproot down in a small 'pot' ( the planting kind, not smoking). I have been unsucessful in getting them to sprout. I have 4 100w cfl lights, and i have been trying different things out. right now i have 2 of the lights on a 18/6 cycle. I water everyday with no luck. Im going on week 3 trying different seeds and different lights.

Please help!Any ideas? i have some 6 day old seeds under light now. Im using a m/g soil to prevnet under/over watering as this is my first go at a stealth box. (p.s. i have intake/exhaust fans and the inside is lined. it stays about 78-82 all the time in there.

Thanks for any help!
Hey Fish thanks for stopping by and the compliment. Although I am a noobie myself, I will try and help ya out.

First of all, how are you germing the seeds? For me, I found that soaking them in water till they crack and then planting them in a 16-20oz cup works the best. Once planted in the cup you need to keep em warm. The rate(speed) at which they sprout is dependent on the temps of the soil. Remember that it can take up to 10 days for seeds to pop out of the soil so be patient.

Next I would get rid of the M/G soil. Imo it is to hot for seedlings and you will fry them. If your soil has nutes in it already, every time you water, you release more food and it burns em up. If it were me I would go with a quality seedling mix and add more perlite at a 60/40 ratio to aid in drainage and alowing O2 to reach the roots. You definatly need to back off on the watering. Seedling do not need very much water to grow so be careful.

As for the lighting? You realy do not need any lights till they show their heads. After they sprout, I put mine on 18/6 because they need dark time to rest and let their roots grow.

Here is a couple threads that helped me out big time. Take a look when you gat a chance

You guys beat me to it. I stopped in the middle of posting to participate in one and you guys were on it. Thanks for looking out. This is the most action this thread has seen so it's pretty cool of ya.

Hey Riddle, I was already thinking the same thing about the threads. He definitely has overwatering going on.

Rock, it's cool if anyone want's to ask any question's, but I appreciate ya looking out. It wasn't till recently that I felt comfortable answering any questions. I am just glad someone thought enough to ask me.

Plague, I definitely agree with ya. It's the sum of all things that matter. You may not get the quantity but the quality is still there.

Hey fish, listen to these guys. Make sure you understand what is hype and what is true when it comes to botany.

:peace: All and Happy Easter if ya celebrate it.

So I chopped the last of the two yesterday at day 66. She started to go full blown Hermie with bananas popping out every where. I know that she already had issues with seeds and I had hoped to keep her going without worrying about any more seeds but oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

This has been a great experience and I have learned so much useful information for my 3rd attempt. With the help of the community, I was able to nurse the girls to the end and not to bad of some smoke either!

Anyway, with this cut and the other girl I think I should end up with about 1.5 Ozer's. I know, I know, I am sure the cfl haters are saying " I told ya so" but its all good. This was my first successful grow and trying my own smoke was probably my best buzz ever. My wife say's like picking tomatoes from the garden.

The new batch are doing good and I will probably start another thread in a couple days. Tore the cab down and cleaned her good. I am also redoing the lights to try and clean things up.

Here's a couple pics of the last chop.

Keep em green!!!

Thanks brother, the quality is as good as anything they came from if not better. :hump:

My props go to you for your contributions to this site. The time spent researching and writing the updates to pass it along to us is an invaluable resource to me and quite a few of my fellow noob's as evidenced by the amount of post's(question's) in your thread's.

Again, thanks for your help.
