Hilary's Penis

I have been looking around to learn more about Hillary's comments on the gender issue, and mostly she just promises to stay tough, while her acolytes claim that "gender is only an issue if you make it one :)"

Well kids, you or I may not think it is an issue, but those wacky folks on the other side of the planet DO make it an issue. These are religious nations who believe that a woman's place is in the home, and any open discussion with a female is like a black mark upon their souls. I'm not saying it's right, it is just something that is of vital importance if she becomes the leader of this country. She will, in many instances, need to have a man serve as a go between in certain instances. These Arab leaders simply WILL NOT talk to her, president or no.

I'm not saying that this should exclude a woman from ever becoming president. Still, if Hillary is being all "tough", then spill out your plan of action about how to deal with male-centric cultures, and not just brush off the question as being one of chauvinism. :hump:

wasn't there a "queen" of england or something? i could be wrong.
There have been successful female leaders all through history, Thatcher, Catherine the Great, all the way back to Cleopatra. I'm not doubting a woman's ability to rule.
I just want to see her acknowledge that this IS an issue, and I want to know who the men are she will use to overcome this. Every leader doles out power to members of their cabinet. I have no problem with that. I just want to hear her solutions. That's all.

I am definitely not against a woman being president, best person for the job is what it comes down to. My problem is with Hillary in general. I vote for Elizabeth Dole before I vote for Hillary Clinton.

i suppose she could always use bill. he'd actually be the ideal candidate for that job. he's already got experience with them and she can trust him...sort of(just not with the office girls :hump:)

Ah Condeleza Rice currently talks to all those men who would supposedly not talk to a female. It is a non issue, as you yourself have stated Margaret Thatcher had one of the best foreign policy governments of he modern world and se was a woman. I think you are letting your penis and ego think this one out.

Umm, if there are documented interviews between Condi and the heads of the United Arab Emirates, please, inform me to the hyper-link. Give me quotes because my news source is faulty. I'd love to see the transcripts. See, what I am is a Southern Californian stoner...I'm like, super liberal and stuff. I WANT women in positions of power, get it? I want the world to decide the value of a person based on their intelligence and merit rather than their allegiance with the Lord.
For you to tell me that I'm letting my penis and my ego think this one out tells me that I have failed to express my point properly. See, I am tired of the liberal idea that if we all just pretend really, really , REALLY hard that racism and sexism and slavery doesn't exist, then POW! it's all gone....
See, it's wrong to think a woman is a second class citizen, so therefore, the cultures of the middle east will just change their millennial old belief system, because the words of Atlantis Morrestette or whatever were so eloquent describing her personal struggle?
Do you even get why conservatives think that we are such naive fools?
Maybe we are. Fuck it. You're right. I hate women and I should just ride off in my pick up truck. My whole point was that women are stupid and belong behind the stove. You got me. I hate gay people too. A pox be upon me.

I don't think that you are a sexist or racist. I do think you are letting old notions cloud your thinking. Condellezza Rice most recently met with the heads of Egypt Saudi Arabia and the UAE in February 21-24 of this year.

While Hillary Clinton has not had high level discussions with world leaders She has met them with her husband while he was President. This may give her at least a foot in the door with these leaders.

While your concerns are not unfounded, I believe generally cabinet members meet with heads of state, unless there is a summit of some sort. For instance George W Bush has only met with leaders from the mideast here in the US.

Dankie,
I'm sorry if I got short. You are right, Condi does meet with these people, although I do understand that there are many groups that will not directly talk to her, or any woman for that matter. I know a cancer expert who was in Scotland last year, and although she was the foremost specialist in her field, when she tried to help a clinic in the UAE, they wouldn't speak with her at all. She had to talk through some guy, who really didn't know what he was talking about.

I guess that was the whole point of this post. I actually am just bringing up that this world still has a lot of sexism in it, and it seems that when someone tries to bring up the issue, voices pop from every corner to shoot you down and accuse you of being sexist or racist or whatever. I had a professor back in college, Jack, who was a former Black Panther. After I passed his class, he and I began going out to the bar together, where we would discuss racism. Jack believed that black people couldn't be racist because the definition of racism to him was a feeling of disdain or distrust by the culture of power towards a minority group. When I would suggest that there are black people who are prejudice against other based on race, he would just tell me that I didn't get it and I never would because I was white. I mean, Jack and I became great friends, but it pissed me off that there were these Hot Topics that, although I was allowed to bring them up, ultimately I would be silenced because talking too freely about race seemed to make me appear to be a racist.
It's kinda the same thing here, and why I got defensive about your comment. I don't think that Hillary would do a better or worse job than a man, and even in those situations where the Middle East sexism became an issue, I believe that she would find a way around it. I'm not really a Hillary supporter, but I think she would do a decent job. I mean, there are people that won't talk to idiots, but George W seems to be getting around alright.

Agreed, and while Hillary has not won my vote by any means. I will not discount her because of how other countries view women in their societies. Maybe a female President will help the plight of women across the globe maybe not. We will never know until we have something other than a WASP president in office how the world or our people will react.

While I understand the concept of racism, I don't think anyone who has experienced the racism of the south prior to the 60's can talk about it with the same understanding as someone who is growing up in the post civil rights movement.
