I'd live up in the UP again, especially if all the underground growers are now opening grow stores and having community bbq's. Life can be awesome up in the wild away from the crowds and politics. sounds like a calmer more peaceful lifestyle. I'm sure it is.
Anyone ever been to the Keewenaw Peninsula?

I have thought a few times about buying some property up by Houghton, but I really like the Central UP. I would not hesitate to live in Northern Wisconsin either. That would be great if you came back up here abe. If more people moved up here, I wouldn't miss the city so much. Calmer is good, but damn man.
We have been all the way to Copper Harbor a few times. Right before Belle got sick we were going to go to Isle Royal for a week on my vacation. Still haven't made it that far. I think it would be cool to stay in Houghton for a night, eat at the library. Have a few more beers at Keweenaw Brewing Company. Then next morning take boat to Isle Royal and stay at lodge for two nights. Fuck the long hikes right now, but tool of far enough to medicate and chill. lol.

nearer to the bridge the closer to civilization. the twnsp, mi nat assoc and the nat conservancy all bought the top of brockway mountain at c. harbor from a prvt party... (a sure thing, but not finalized yet) so that's great that the mountain will be preserved! eaten at the library numerous times, like that whole 2 towns and canal... Houghton is a decent little place. Marquette has potential... especially w the duke medical hospital upgrade. and Mrqt. has some ppl.. sure as heck don't like the new mining, w many more applications in the works... jobs good/contaminating ground water, not so good.

often the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

When we first attempted living up here, we were much closer to the bridge. Could not handle that shit. So I told her only way it was conceivable was by Marquette. lol. Now I am a good 45 min. straight south, and that 45 minutes equates to about 1/8 of the snowfall. I don't mind snow, but my God sometimes it is just unbelievable all the feet of snow. lol. The mines are happening in a big way. There is no way in hell that many mines are a good thing. Too much money involved though. I am not sure how much Rio Tinto and Cleveland Cliffs make in a year, but it is enough for them to own the UP and have their way with it. We actually stayed up in Big Bay on the yellow dog last fall. Amazing property. Well over a few drinks at the Lumberjack one worker was trying to convince me that the water they use goes through some high dollar plant and the waste water is cleaner than the original water from the world-class blue ribbon trout stream. Even after some shots, I just still couldn't quite buy it. And why couldn't they just keep reusing the same water? Oh well. (no pun intended).

I've been up to the UP a handful of times, my buddy lives in Manistique and he has introduced me to some straaaaange offbeat dudes that live in the deep woods.

livin' off the grid, or somewhat like it, hell im already that isolated dwn here- don't go to town... tha's ok by me.
ideally a combination of town/city and rural suits me best. kinda have both in one, lower-peninsula-troll style.
have to get back to my parallel universe now
