Greetings everyone!

Here's my set up...
4.8sq foot tent
250 watt MH/HPS with cooltube
DIY 3.5 gallon DWC buckets with homemade net lids
2 valve air pump, 4-inch air stones.
4" Phat filter
165 CFM 4" inline fan with variable speed controller
6" clip-on oscillating fan

Currently growing:
FMS Grapefruit and 1 bag seed (from schwag).

Nutrients:
AN Sensi grow/bloom
Bud Candy, Big Bud, Overdrive, Final Phase.

On deck:
Tangerine Dream, Sour AK, Connie Chung, and Widowrella.

====================
I vegged for 3 weeks and the pictures are at 34 days in flower. A while back I had a problem with my ballast and had to use the 150 watt for 4 days. Things are back on track. I'll have some pics of the bag seed soon. You're not missing anything.

GF smelled great in veg, just like a grapefruit. Now she has a peppery, spicy scent that very interesting. I've read the spicy pheno produces large buds... i can only hope.

I'd be happy to answer any questions and am open to comments, suggestions, and constructive criticism. Thanks for stopping by. -hg

Tomorrow will be day 42 in flower. Today she smells like grapefruit and vomit. Very interesting.

Tomorrow's rez change will include the first feeding of Overdrive and i'll discontinue big bud. Should be very interesting to see what kind of additional swelling or resin production will occur in these final two weeks. First time using this product.

What you're going to see is a macro, a close-up, the crappy bagseed (from mexican brick schwag sold locally), the fattest bud, and the main cola which has the most prolific resin production. The plant is concentrating her efforts to this part of the plant and I'm not really happy about it. topping would have prevented this. Should make for a badass smoke tho.

Since feeding overdrive I've had to turn my carbon fan up to medium. she smells to high heaven. the vomit smell is gone now but it's still peppery/spicy and very grapefruity.

was the smell coming straight from the buds?.... or could it be a smell caused but nutes (mine stink like dead animals) .... i had a really strong smell of body odour when i did my bagseed grow.... and i couldn't work out if it was coming from the somewhat wet soil (i use to water like a f**ktard) or if it was from the buds... when i smelt the buds more closely they smelt weed like and fine.... but the air inside the greenhouse smelt of armpit???

hi troutie. Thanks for stopping by. Definitely the buds. My nutrients really don't smell like anything and they've had the same formula for 4 or 5 weeks - the vomit smell came just before overdrive. The reservoir has an earthy smell, but that's all. Afghan smelled like sweaty gym socks and then meat, straight up meat.

During their flower cycle they'll release hormones and terpines that produce smells that are all over the spectrum. Flowers, fruit, wood, spice, berries, rotting meat, skunk, pine, cheese, fuel... it goes on an on. Such a lovely species.

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am right now. In August the wife and I went on a cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. While I was in Jamaica on the beach in Montego Bay I bought a fat ass joint (lovely tropical high) and got to talking to this cool ass dude. I told him I was a farmer and he said he'd love to help me out. A little while later one of his buddies came back with a small sack of seeds. I'd say there are probably about 20 maybe 30. Some of them were cracked others were not in good shape but there were a few that I will would say were viable. Before germinating Grapefruit I decided to germ about 10 or 15 along with the bagseed currently growing. The results were terrible. Zero germination. So I had little hope for these remaining seeds.

Coming to the end of this grow I started thinking about my next project. So, earlier this week I took the remaining seeds and I scored each seed with a razor to give it a head start. I used the paper-towel inside a plastic bag method and set them under my bed. I forgot about them for a couple of days and went to check on them and three have sprouted. Yes, three seeds acquired from a small beach in Montego Bay Jamaica have sprouted and are going to be my next project. I'm somewhat worried that I'll wind up with all males, as that is entirely possible, so I'm going to germinate a single tangerine dream as well. I don't have any great expectations as my current bag seed is completely disappointing but, seriously, seeds from a Jamaica? I'm stoked!!

I'm going to arrange for 3 5-gallon buckets this time. more, smaller plants, less veg. I think that'll work. What about a little planned parenthood, pollinating for more seed? hmmm...

A peek at the resin production reveals I'm currently at 10/90/0 (clear/cloudy/amber). My goal is 0/100/0 or close to it, a bit more on the amber side is fine. A few more pistils have begun to brown but the calyx have yet to swell. The plant has put on a bit of weight, but has at least 7-10 more days. Having to use the 150 watt really put me behind. Some of the fan leaves have begun to change colors which is very pretty. I'm sure the flush will bring out even more color.

I've given up trying to conceal the smell 100%. My fan is on high and I can still smell her through the tent.

I'm also going to make hash out of the bagseed plant. Haven't decided on dry ice or bubble yet. Definitely making hash out of the grapefruit trim. There is so much resin on this plant it's really quite amazing.

Taking pictures almost daily up until harvest. I'll update the video which will photo-document the entire grow in 4:20.

Today is the last day of week 8 in flower. I'll discontinue Overdrive and only feed sensi bloom until the flush. Overdrive really did its job and created a load of resin on this plant although Grapefruit has fabulous genetics making this a sure winner.

You'll begin to notice the tips brown and burnt. This only occurred after I added Overdrive. Grapefruit is a confirmed light feeder and adding full strength Overdrive was a bit aggressive. The 2ml/liter should be the ceiling, not the base dose.

Just a few snaps for today. Next update should be flush. Have a great weekend everyone!

Couple of things to report...

I've taken the bag seed plant completely out and will make hash out of the entire plant. I've saved a couple of small buds for my buddy who wanted to smoke some. She smells like grassy, fruity, coffee.

Grapefruit has gone through the 6-hour Final Phase flush and is now drinking straight water for the remainder of the cycle. Should be just about 3 or 4 days.

She's also getting 48 hours of dark prior to harvest. In my extensive research those who say 'do not do this' cannot provide substantial evidence, empirical or anecdotal, to the contrary. Those who have tried it say their either saw no difference, or experienced faster maturation, more resin, slight weight gain, and other benefits. The way I see it, there is no harm and only potential benefits to gain.

Observations...
Grapefruit is either NOT an 8 week strain or having to use the 150 watt during a critical time set the plant back. I'm still on the fence as to which it is. I have two packets of FMS Grapefruit and I'll definitely run this strain again and will have a more definitive report later.

This spicy pheno taxed the crap out of my carbon filter. I'm not sure which was responsible, 1) the strain, 2) AN Overdrive 3) aging carbon filter. Could be a combination of all three but let's just say that after discontinuing Overdrive, she doesn't smell as bad.

Damn, those girls are looking tasty. A buddy of mine is about to start his first grow and has about the same amount of space to grow as in your tent. I showed him this journal as an example of how to use the space properly :p scrog rules.

Never tried 48, but FWIW I gave my last couple grows 36 hours before harvest. As far as I can tell it seems to help the final flush taste-wise so I'm gonna keep doing it. I'm still not sure if it increases the final potency... hard to tell since when I first did it I was long out of the old stuff by the time the new stuff cured and couldn't really compare. Hope you get more conclusive results than I did :D
