Just curious your reasoning on starting a new thread?
I get notifications when replies are added to threads I participated in, and I figured notifying a bunch of people that were already pre-disposed to this problem or line of critical thinking was probably the quickest way to get eyeballs with solutions on my immediate situation.
A new thread will be at the top of the list when you select "new posts" but so will a thread if you just recently replied (I think they are stacked by chronological order in terms of activity), so imo it seems that by 'replying recently' you get the thread pushed to the top of the list but also alert many that have previously dealt with such issues, so you get new eyeballs but also enlist old participants with opinions on the matter that may not be looking at the "new post" section.
